Childbirth Classes

Hi ladies!

Did you register for childbirth classes with your multiples? At our anatomy scan, baby A was presenting but breech and baby B was head down. I know a lot can obviously change in the coming months but as we are registering for the multiples and baby care class at our hospital, I wasn't sure if we should bother with registering for a childbirth class as well. Ideally, I'd like to deliver both vaginally but having the stars align and not have the second baby flip after the first is delivered seems like a big "if". Curious to know what you all did and what your thoughts are.

Re: Childbirth Classes

  • I did not, but that was mostly bc the twins are not our first. I took a hospital tour instead since I hadn't delivered at that particular hospital yet.

I liked our childbirth class, fwiw. I can't say I leaned much new but it was nice to hear things that I had read.

I also took a BFing class and found that helpful as well.

  • We did. These are our first (and only) but I found it very helpful. You never know you may bet able to delivery vaginally. I ended up with a planned section as they were both breech but I'm still glad we did the class.

  • We will be.  Mostly because I want to see the hospital insides (birthing rooms, postpartum areas and the NICU) and get to know some of the staff who will be around the area for support around our birth.   We'll be doing the twin-specific class at our hospital, and they group them in such a way that we should be with other parents around our EDD, so hopefully we'll meet a family or two that we can get along with and connect with when we have babies!

The class we took also covered c-sections, basic child care and safety (including one day dedicated to car seats), and a hospital tour. Baby A was head down when I registered but was breech by the time we took the class. He never flipped back so I had c-section.

  • We didn't take them. We didn't with our first either. However, I am a medic and have been taught how to deliver a baby so there wasnt' much for me to really gain from them. But if you are a FTM a BF class wouldn't be a bad idea. I had an unmedicated birth with my midwife at a birth center that is attached to a hospital with a NICU so at our first appointment we saw the rooms we could pick from to deliver in so we didn't need a tour or anything otherwise I might have done it just for that.

  • I just signed up for our hospital's multiples course, which is 3 evening classes.  We took a longer child birth class with DS and several additional classes (CPR, car seats, breastfeeding, coping with labor, etc.), but we feel a bit overwhelmed by the prospect of twins and I want a class that goes more in depth on what kind of birth experience I can expect (very different from DS's). I am hoping for a multiples focus on breastfeeding too.

  • I was signed up for the multiple course at the hospital but was put on house arrest before it happened. So we canceled the course and ordered a DVD class. It worked out fine for me.

  • I took a Bradley class with my older daughter, but not for my twins since I had already taken the class and knew what to expect somewhat since I'd already given birth before.  It definitely doesn't hurt to be prepared and knowledgeable about all the options.  I was able to deliver my twins vaginally but was prepared for a c section.

  • No classes here - I was on HBR and unable to attend. I delivered vaginally and EBF so I guess I don't think classes are necessary

  • I took them out of the hospital and really enjoyed them. I think it helped me wrap my head around the actual choices that would be presented, know how I feel about them, and I felt empowered to stand up for myself. I had a pretty terrible outcome as far as my health was concerned, but there wasn't much that could have changed that. During my labor, I felt good about the decisions we were making. It also put my husband on board with me because we had learned together. Know that it might not all apply to you, but some of it might!
