September 2012 Moms

MommaP, Kelbel and all the "movers"

I feel like there are a bunch of us. Congrats, everyone!!!

What a stressful process. How is everything going? We should be out of attorney review today (fingers crossed). The closing is scheduled for the end of May, but we will probably move at the end of June to allow for some time to paint, clean, etc. No major work needs to be done, thank goodness. We are going to get some quotes to refinish the hardwood and try and do that before we move it as well.

Right now the biggest concern I have is finding a new daycare. We absolutely LOVE where she is now and it will be hard to top it.

Re: MommaP, Kelbel and all the "movers"

  • Hey!   So, our sellers of our new place had the agent from hell.  I'll spare you the details, but we close on our current home (condo) next Tuesday and will live with my parents for either 2 weeks, 3 weeks or 4 weeks depending on our closing date.   I am dreading it, but it will pass and be worth it.  They were jerks who wouldn't really even look at our offer since we were contingent so we had to "give" on all these things including the close date.  The latest we will close is 5/15 but we are pushing for 5/1 this week.  I'm not at all confident we'll close May 1.   Ugh.

We ordered a POD to store our crap until we can move into the new house.  We'll probably go in and clean and paint over a couple of days once I know the closing date since we're staying with my parents.   It's so fun being in limbo and not knowing our closing date!  I'm trying to stay positive and remind myself it will be a month tops, we are lucky we have family to stay with, etc...
    ;)

Oh, and this for sure.  DS starts kindergarten in the fall, so I've been printing out all the forms, we're going to the Kindergarten open house in May (SOB) but I need to find something for DS for fall in the new hood and I'm really sad we will be done with our current daycare/preschool after this summer.  (MORE SOBS).   I can't lie, between moving out of the home I  have lived in for 9 years  - having gotten engaged, married, and had both my babies in and then registering DS for kindgergarten, I've been a stressed sobbing mess, ha!

  • Oh gosh - so much going on all at once!!! I know it's not an ideal situation, but even 4 weeks will fly by in the blink of an eye.

Last night I got a recommendation for a daycare right in town. This mom loves it there. It's small, privately owned (by 2 sisters) so it has a warm, family feel which is exactly what we have now and what I would prefer. The bonus is that it's significantly less that what we pay now, which would be fabulous since our commuting costs will be higher.

  • That's awesome.  I'm on a ListServ email group for our new neighborhood and see a lot of postings about nannys and daycare openings.  I intend to focus more on her daycare setup after Memorial day - I just need to get through this move/closing and at least we know we are going to keep them at their current place through the summer - though it will be a little inconvenient.  We are moving exactly 8.8 miles west...literally we live in the 700 S. block right now and our new home is in the 700 S. block of our new street in the new town - so weird!

  • Oh, that's good that you are staying in the same area. We're not - 40 miles west! Luckily I am somewhat familiar with the area. My aunt lives in the same neighborhood and my husband used to work in the town, not to mention the 8000 trips we've already taken out there to look at houses. So at least I already know my way around.

  • Ugh - ladies, so much stress!  Glad I'm not the only going through all this.  Moving creates so much uncertainty.

@MommaP12 - Our buyer also has an awful agent, but so far this is working in our favor.
@BobKat22 - Good luck!  We're also renting while building and picking the city was hard for us.  Unfortunately, it came down to 1 choice that met all our criteria except location, and we had to go with it.  At least, that's what we're thinking.  We haven't signed the lease yet.
@MomtobeNJ - Congrats, it sounds like you guys are getting close and have a good plan!  Finding a new daycare is so hard, do you have anyone you can get recommendations from?

We're supposed to be closing in 4 weeks.  I think we're on track, now that it appears our buyer got divorced today (his financing was contingent on the divorce finalizing).  The inspection went well and we only have to fix a few things.  (though that's not final, so things could still fall apart)

We only found 1 apartment/house/condo that would allow us to sign a short-term lease and have two dogs.  It's been an awful search!  I have probably called/emailed 50 places.  We have one more lead, but I don't think it has a 3rd bedroom, so we probably won't change where we're thinking we'll land.

Unfortunately, that means that we have to figure out where DS1 is going to go to 4K next year.  I am going to try to choice-school him into a district we won't live in, but they bus back and forth from our daycare.  I won't know until June if we get accepted.

We also can't start building until Sept 1st based on the lot we picked, so we're going to be in an apartment for longer than I expected.  I know it will be all worth it in the end, but phew! this has been a challenge and we're only just getting started!

  • I'm hoping to be joining you all.  We put our house on the market two weeks ago and had our first open house last Sunday.  It was crazy trying to get everything perfect.  We worked our butts off. Two people (one of them was our neighbor) showed up.  Boo.

We are supposed to have our first showing this Saturday.

I can't even think about all of the daycare, preschool, additional issues that will come if we do sell.  I just hope the selling process doesn't take too long.
