June 2013 Moms

Calories

I probably should have asked this many moths ago... How many calories should a breast feeding mom take in a day?

Someone told me weight watchers tells you but I'm not a member.

Thanks!

Re: Calories

  • depends on your weight, height and activity level. I think on average it is 300 extra calories, so if you normally consume 1800 then 2100. If you are physicaly active then you may need to consume a few more so that your supply does not drop too much.

  • I read somewhere that you burn almost 20 calories for each ounce of breast milk you produce.
  • I always put 400 on my fitnesspal, but I stopped keeping track.

  • I think it was 300 for pregnant & 500 for breastfeeding.
