S/O Coconut Oil...

A few of you mentioned coconut oil in my post below on the baby oil diaper rash tip.  I use expeller pressed coconut oil as a moisturizer for DD and DS.  It is solid in the jar until I warm it in my hands or by rubbing on their skin. It did wonders for DD's eczema on her cheeks, and I was not worried about her ingesting it unlike other lotions.  I had read about its antibacterial properties, and had acutally tried it for a while on DD's bottom before her rash got totally out of control, but was encouraged by the pedi to not use it when the rash worsened.  Her rationale was that a "food based" product (like coconut, olive or other natural oil) could "feed" the rash if there were a yeast component to it.  Which who knows if there was, as we did Nystatin for a while when things first took a turn for the worse.

Anyway, since I would love to get away from baby oil on DD's bottom, my question is this -- in an application where you need a liquid form of coconut oil, how would you do it?  Since the application is to clean, it needs to be liquid from the get go to be put on a cotton pad to wipe. Is there a liquid for or way to keep it liquid? It would not be practical to liquify the oil solids every time you needed a wipe.

Am I missing something?

And p.s., I also stopped using coconut oil on DD's cheeks as the GI specialist suggested perhaps that is something she is sensitive to, and perhaps her ingestion of it was part of her issues.  Seriously?  It is possible I guess, so I'll be slowly re-intorducing anyway...yeesh.

    We do t use it as a wash - I use kissaluvs mixture as a wipe ointment, and coconut oil as a butt cream

    I just scrape off a bit with my finger everytime and it just melts on his butt. I melt it and poir into a small bowl for easy acces.
    I've also recently started mixing it in with an olive oil based ointment I have that has extra stuff like grape seed extract and chamomile and others, and that helps keep it a bit softer than the straight up CO

    Coconut oil is actually highly recommended in the cloth diaper world for yeast rashes because it's antifungal and antimicrobial. It melts really easily, so I just rub it on DD's bottom. In the summertime it's warm enough in my house that it liquidates right in the jar siting on the shelf.

    I think I was the first to say coconut oil.  I think I would just put a hunk on the cotton pad and wipe.  It would melt as I wiped, so I figured it would work...??? Or you could pop it in the microwave for five seconds before a diaper change...but that's a lot of work.

    And I agree with @KJsbabe I've heard it's antifungal.  But I can see your doc's logic...  Have you talked with a pediatric dermatologist about any of these skin issues your littles have?  It sounds like it's all food allergy related, but I didn't know if a derm consult would help.  My sister is a derm PA...I might ask her what she thinks about coconut oil with yeast.

    Also...one thing to consider is that yeast likes warm, dark, moist (hate that word) places.  So that's one of the reason it's so hard to fight.  All the typical rash remedies keep it moist rather than dry.  If that makes sense at all...

    This for us, too. It melts almost instantly when I scoop some out with my fingers any time of year. I also whip it in my Kitchenaid mixer w/ a little Vitamin E oil and keep it in a wide mouth mason jar right next to his changing table. It makes it "fluffier" (is that even a real word) and I think it helps it spread easier.

    Yeast eats sugar not oil so I don't get the concern there.
