Looks like it's finally my turn

Well fingers are still crossed, but it is starting to look like it is finally our turn to have a baby. Had another ultra sound today and the baby looks great. Heartbeat was at 164bpm. We are measuring completely on track. I could not be more overjoyed. My RE said that we have about 95% chance that this is my rainbow baby. I felt my guard come down quite a bit today.

So for the medical part... She said I could come back in a week to see if I can stop the PIO, or I can wait 2 weeks. I told her I would wait 2 weeks. She also said that we would do a MaterniT21 test, it will test for fetal chromosomal abnormalities, and we will get to know the sex of the baby. I am shocked that we would know his early. Anyone else have this test done? What were your thoughts?

Hey, congratulations and welcome!

I did the Mat21 test and I think it is great to be able to know about chromosome problems early (I'm 35) or to have them ruled out. It was also fun and weird to know the sexes early! It was an easy test - just a regular blood draw. I haven't been billed by insurance regarding it - but you might want to check with them first regarding your coverage. I have heard though that if your insurance doesn't pay, Sequenom will reduce your price to something like $200 (I think test costs closer to $2K) - I'm not positive about this though.

Congrats on a great ultrasound! That test wasn't available to me at first as my practice had a few requirements (age, risk, etc) but I wound up having it done after a scare on our anatomy scan (all is good). It is easy as it's a blood test but if you wanted to be team Green you can tell them not to let you know the sex. It's a personal decision whether you want to know about any chromosomal issues as well at this point.

If I could have done the Mat21 test early I would have, but our geneticists do not offer it for twins because they can mask each other. How cool would it be to know early though!

Welcome Aboard!!

My doc ordered the Harmony test - similar to Mat21. We did the blood draw at my first OB appt at 10w3d. It takes about 10-14 days to get the results. Our first draw came back saying insufficient fetal DNA. Apparently this is normal, so we did a re-draw at 12w3 days and on Christmas Eve at 14w3d we found out we have a healthy little boy!

The drawback to doing Harmony or Mat21 is your OB will likely forgo the NT scan at 12-14 weeks so you wont get to see your little gummy bear again until your anatomy scan between 19-22 weeks. But, the bonus is you'll know if you have a he or she much earlier.
