Question about harmony test

I was offered the harmony test as I am 37. My dr said the test was covered by my insurance (my dr has the same insurance as me as we work for the same hospital). She ordered the basic test. I would like her to also check for gender and I'm not sure if insurance covers it. I called the insurance and they are no help. I feel fairly confident that the basic harmony is covered...just wondering if the added gender result is covered (and if not, is it really expensive).

Re: Question about harmony test

  • My insurance covered the gender portion. I ended up just paying $145 for the test which was billed to my insurance $3500. My doctor said if I got charged more the $200 I should call the company and they wouldn't charge me more then $200.

  • Interesting info....I called labcorp which is the lab that will be doing the test. They said the basic harmony test is $795. The Y analysis and the XY analysis are $815. I was surprised there wasn't much difference in cost for the gender test.

I would think it would be included, It's good to know there is separate analysis for X and XY. I would think that they would do that before they test for sex-specific issues like Turner's which is supposed to be included (at least it's included in Materni21 from what I've been told).  It would seem like a waste of time to test for Turner's as an example, if they got XY.

  • Never heard there was a deprecate charge for that, but as pp said, out of pocket won't be more than $200 no matter what your insurance covers.
