Food Allergy

This is not how reintroducing soy is supposed to go

Based on the allergist's recommendation, I gave ds2 a few ounces of soy milk on Wednesday afternoon......he was a bit fussy Wednesday night.  Thursday morning he had a little bit of a rash on his torso but I went ahead and gave him a little bit more soy milk.......by Thursday afternoon he had a bigger rash so I called the allergist back.  He said in the absence of any other allergy symptoms to continue giving soy and monitor him and call back on Monday or sooner if it gets worse.

So this morning comes....and I'm looking at ds's rash and thinking to myself this just doesn't act like hives so what is it?.....so I called the pediatrician's office to see if I could have one of them look at the rash and hopefully identify it.....Based on the description and the timing the nurse doesn't think it's hives, she thinks it is a chicken pox rash from the vaccine 10 days ago....he has an appointment this afternoon to verify that is what this really is.

  • He did have a chicken pox rash, but since it was from the vax, the spots stayed rather small compared to the ones from the disease.....and they didn't seem to bother him much at all.....best part is that he didn't act sick and they were gone in a couple days. We are back to trying soy and so far other than a little spit up hours after ingestion that I can't tell if it's related or not, we haven't noticed any reaction to it.

  • Oh good! I had chicken pox when I was 7, it was no joke.  But I'm glad he doesn't seem to have much of a reaction!
