I'm curious what everyone's take is on full moons having an effect on labor? My cousin mentioned it at my shower this weekend (both her DDs were born early and during a full moon) and I'd never heard of such a thing.
Well my SIL is a post partum nurse and one of my best friends is a NICU nurse. Both have said that when there is a full moon more babies are born and they sometimes have to move patients around because so many moms are having babies. I guess since they work there and watch it happen month after month, I'll just take their word for it that it's true. That being said, I think May 14th is a little too early for me to deliver and June 13th is definitely too late. So we will see.

I went through the same thing. A big snow storm was coming in a the pressure changed fast. My water broke early. It was a few days before the full moon too.
@hampire is your baby animal a bat? It's really cute! Pressure changes cause my previously torn hamstring to ache, and I've heard similar things from other people about joint pain or old injuries throbbing. I've never heard of a correlation with the moon though.
@Temurlang1 Yep, I also have old injuries that ache with pressure changes. I think the full moon thing is more superstition than anything else.
@mrsgerman The 13th is a lucky number/day for MH and me, too! We started dating, got engaged, and were married on 4/13. I'm due June 2nd- I don't know if I want to go 11 days over, but who knows what LO has in mind.
Working in an ER for ten years, I will never believe anyone who says the full moon doesn't have an effect on people's behavior. The quantity may or may not be affected, but the type of complaints we see definitely is.
In my experiences working in healthcare... Full moons do something to us humans (and all animals). If you don't believe it, go to a nursing home during a full moon (especially in a dementia wing) I always had an audience of dementia patients those nights. Also, the changes in pressure that goes along with the moon phases do affect us and, subsequently, could help with labor.
Re: Full Moon and Labor
Of course I have no real proof, just anecdotal stories, especially from working the night shift during the full moon.
