Webster Technique

Who's tried it and what has been your experience?

I have always been weary of chiropractors mostly due to one errant article I read a women having a stroke from a neck adjustment (yes I realize this is irrational) but My girl is still stubborn breech and I have been doing spinning babies techniques for a month now so it is time to step it up and I have an appointment for a webster certified chiro my doula recommended this afternoon. I would love to hear any personal stories on it!

  • I go to a Webster trained chiro.  I love it!  It has helped with pain and discomfort.  She claims that adjustments help with flipping breach babies. I don't know if they do or not, but for my purposes (pain relief), I have nothing but good things to say.

I am excited to see if it will help with my spd and groin pain in addition to hopefully giving peanut what she need to turn! My DH actually wants to go as well for his back if I like the practice since insurance covers it here for him.

That's a great personal experience @kelseyandrobert! I am hoping getting going this early means best chances to give her what she needs to turn down!

  • Mine hadn't turned in response to Webster but it has been helping my spd and back spasms so I still see it as worth it. Fwiw, the whole fear of neck cracking though is pretty founded. DH is an MD who tells me never to have my chiro touch my neck.

  • I see a Webster chiro and love her. Love. She's also been adjusting my hips and tailbone, and it's definitely made a difference in my comfort levels.

@kelseyandrobert it went well! He is apparently the only board certified prenatal/pediatric chiro in the city and has been for 20 years and his father was one too. He is much more about the holistic health aspect and I am pretty crunchy so I appreciated that. He also explained what he would be doing well and he did acupuncture and gave me moxi to do as well as his webster adjustments. I don't expect her to turn immediately and he explained that of course if there is a physical reason on her end she isn't turning then this won't do it but I have to see him 2-4 times a week but luckily it's entirely covered by my insurance. So we shall see! My round ligament was extremely tight on my left side where I hurt my groin at work 6 weeks ago and that's where he did the trigger point therapy that is part of it and yes that was intense but I've had it before on my back and the release is nice.

Really? My dh is an MD and he refers people to a chiropractor for chronic pain. Better that than becoming addicted to pain meds. I have been going to them for 20 years. I have never heard of anyone having their neck broken from a chiropractor. Now I would not go to one to treat a medical condition like infertility or cancer, but my experience is that they have provided pain relief where meds and physical therapy did not. Do you have any research to back up your statement about neck adjustments being unsafe? What is the theory behind this? I would not think they would use enough force to break ones neck or do serious damage unless someone had severe osteoporosis or something.

It's not broken necks. It's younger people suffering strokes after receiving high velocity treatments to the neck. There are quite a few substantial studies on it at the moment, though I admit my knowledge is second hand. It's a fairly new school of thought but personally I will just avoid it.

  • But the neck adjustment is my favorite! Seriously, I have TMJ so my neck is a hot mess from the clenching.

Chiro is the only thing that had helped my SPD. I was ready to get in a wheelchair this time around at 10-12w. Had to switch to another Webster chiro who put me up on these blocks to untwist my pelvis. And the round ligament release (massage in my mind lol) is just wonderful.

The RL release IS fantastic! Hurts like a bitch at first but once it starts to release it feels so much better. Just had my second adjustment today and he said it definitely feels like her head has moved but couldn't confirm where so we will see at my MFM later today. Don't want to get my hopes up

  • My chiropractor does Webster, and it has been very helpful going throughout my pregnancy.  I don't know if that is the reason, but my baby is head down.  And the lower back pain is always better after my appointment.

  • I work with neurologists who also say that getting your neck adjusted can cause stroke in rare cases. They so say other chiro adjustments can be great. I just tell my chiro not to crack my neck. He does other stuff to my neck and adjusts my back and pelvis. I'm not taking a chance on my neck and he understands that.
  • I saw a chiropractor 3 times a week for the Webster technique with DS. It didn't work for me and I didn't continue going after I gave birth. Personally, I prefer acupuncture and have had better experiences with it. Good luck flipping that baby!
