What are you reading?

Ok S12, What are you reading? Would you recommend it? Why/why not? I just finished Twister Sisters by Jen Lancaster. It was pretty good but took a weird supernatural type turn that I wasn't expecting and just found odd. I'd recommend it if you are looking for a no brainier read with some humor.

Re: What are you reading?

  • I just started This Is Where I Leave You by Jonothan Tropper . It's really entertaining so far.
  • Loading the player...
  • Counseling the Nursing Mother.

I have a feeling that's not the kind of recommendation you are looking for. ;) It's interesting though. I'm learning a lot.

  • I just finished When Hell Was In Session.  It's about POW's during the Vietnam War and was a great book. I read for hours every night and read mostly nonsense books so I try and read meaningful books every now and then.  I LOVE Rachel Schurig books.  I've read all of them and all of Barbara Freethy's books.  They are such easy reads and I enjoy them.

  • I'm reading Mindy Kaling's book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me.  It's fun, fluffy reading which is what I need right now, but it certainly wouldn't be the first book I'd recommend.

I'd recommend anything by Michael Chabon or Nick Harkaway.
  • Working my way through Defending Jacob. Recently, I binge-read Orphan Train & The Fault in Our Stars while traveling to and then back from Florida. All are highly-recommended!

I've actually never heard of those authors...someone to look into! :)

  • I just read Night Circus and the Divergent series. I liked both.

Is the Night Circus like the Divergent series? I enjoyed those books too.

I'm actually reading. Toddler Rules by Jo Frost, she's the Super Nanny. It's actually really good. I've gotten some great tips. She's inspired me to serve more veggies (even though he doesn't eat them) and given me more confidence in my parenting overall.

For fiction, I've recently read Gone Girl and I recommend it.

I really like the Super Nanny books.

I raided my mom's bookshelf and grabbed a few older books. About to start Friday Night Knitting Club.

  • I always recommend Rob Lowe's book Stories I Only Tell My Friends in these book threads. It's basically his memoir with a bunch of stories from his days in the Brat Pack, etc. it's interesting and hilarious. And his new book comes out TODAY!

I'm slowly working my way through the Game of Thrones books, but this one is next on my list. I just love him, so I'm really excited to read this book (and for the change of pace in book styles)
  • Just read 12 years a slave and the fault in our stars, both of which were pretty good. Currently reading some nonfiction for book club that is so bad I can't remember the name of it right now. Marking this thread though!

  • Circle of wives by Alice laplante, read it for book club. I would not recommend, it took me way too long to get through it, the characters and story line are way too contrived, and the ending was a total cop out.

  • I downloaded "Twisted Sisters" but haven't read it yet. I'm almost done "Growing Up Duggar" --to feed my guilty pleasure over their enormous family, haha.

Next up is "Keep Quiet," the latest Lisa Scottoline book. "Defending Jacob," "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and "The Faults in Our Stars, have been on my list for a long time too, so it's good to hear they're good ones.

    Me too!!

I'm STILL on the 3rd book in the Divergent series.  Seriously.  I've had this stupid book for almost 2 weeks.  It's ridiculous.  I read the other 2 books in just over a day each.  This one isn't awesome.

The last truly amazing book I read was The Historian.  It's about Dracula.  It goes all over the world.  It's completely fascinating and quite creepy.  I 2nd Meatball's rec of Gone Girl.  Really, really good book.

The 3rd Divergent book wasn't my favorite either. I loved Gone Girl. I re-read it before I read the one I just finished. I've read one f her other books, Dark Places, and it was pretty good too, Gone Girl was better in my opinion though.

After a months long post apocalyptic kick, I'm in a (probably months long) travel narrative kick. Currently reading Getting Stoned With Savages by J Maarten Troost (who also wrote The Sex Lives of Cannibals also recommended) which is hilarious and a good history of the South Pacific. Up next is And Then There Were Nuns and Pass the Butterworms.

I recently finished Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris (also very funny) and Simplicity Parenting (not funny but interesting).

I love David Sedaris. Holidays on Ice is a must read every Christmas.

I love Sedaris too, which my mom remembers every Christmas, and every Christmas she buys me a copy of Holidays on Ice... Not sure how she always remembers the author, but not that she keeps buying the same book!
