My little one is 14 days we have been nursing since birth...2 diff LCS said latch was great. However, upon latch pain is toe curling... Then goes away. Does this sound typical?
Has it felt that way since the beginning? If so then yes that's normal and it will get better. Make sure you are using lanolin cream every time after nursing.
If it has already gotten better, but now it's getting worse it could be thrush although it seems a little soon. I got thrush at about 2 months. It started out like that and then progressed to shooting pain like pieces of glass in my breasts!
If it has not improved in a couple of weeks (and you've ruled out thrush) have LO evaluated for lip or tongue tie. Sometimes it gets missed. A IBCLC should be able to evaluate properly.
Good job sticking with hit! Good luck!

Echoing what everyone else said, it will get better! Keep at it and use tons of nipple cream. Also, strange tip: I was told to drink a glass of water when they first latch on. My LC recommended it saying that the pain is worse when you tense up and by drinking you have to be more relaxed and concentrate on something else for a minute. I don't know...it kind of helped. Truth is BF HURTS in the beginning. But, you need the water anyway so I just kept doing it.
As PP have said, sounds normal and it does get better! My LC told me to take 3 slow deep breaths at latch. If the pain isn't gone by then, check the latch. If it is, great! And the deep breaths will help relax your shoulders down from up by your ears :-)
