Insight? Thoughts?

Hey girls,
I had an u/s yesterday. A little refresher: I have a 17 month old son and have had two miscarriages since. One was chromosomal, second couldn't be determined. Both were at around 7 wks.
Yesterday's u/s showed baby w hb @121 bpm. Only prob (which dr is not saying is a problem) is that it's measuring 5 wks, 6 days. According to my calculations, I should be 6 wks, 5 days. Here's my rationale: lmp 2/21, last time we dtd 3/5, my cycles had been between 26-27 days. I was not temping. The dr is assuming my cycle is 28 days, which would make me 6 wks, 3 days, still within the normal range (5 days). To make matters worse, I had some, very light brown on tp this am.
Had anyone else had this experience of dates being off? Could this measuring be ok with having last had sex on 3/5? Could brown discharge be from u/s?? Ugh! Thanks ladies. I'm losing it over here! Terrified this will be my third loss:-(

Congrats on your pregnancy. So sorry you are in limbo. Since you didn't temp and it doesn't sound like a medicated cycle it's very possible that you ovulated later than you think you did and it implanted a bit later etc. Also, ultrasound machines can be off plus or minus days especially so early. The hear rate is awesome for 5 weeks 6 days. I am hoping for the best for you. Are you on progesterone or have you had it checked? Unfortunately only another ultrasound will be able to tell you how the pregnancy is progressing.

So glad they prescribed it even just for peace of mind. Can you request an ultrasound for next week so you don't have to wait so long to see how things are progressing?

Only if I start bleeding. They want to see me in two wks otherwise. I am having brown spotting now. I'm going to call my dr but I think he will prob tell me it's from the u/s.

By LMP you should be 6w5d
The date you last had sex was 3/5.

You line up with my cycle pretty damn close as I'm roughly 6w3d today. As others have mentioned, it's possible you ovulated 2-3days after 3/5, moving you down to the 6-6w2d range, then with US capabilities & LO being so small right now, they can be off 4-5days, which also puts you where they have you measuring.

Sending Ts & Ps your way that it was a slight later ovulation &or later implantation that's causing your dates to be off, and that spotting is from the US.

KMW laid it out perfectly! The brown spotting could be from the ultrasound and you got to hear a wonderful little beating heart! I will pray that everything turns out ok for you! That the spotting will stop and next time you go in everything is exactly how it's supposed to be. (((hugs)))

I'm sorry you're in limbo! If you last had sex 3/5, you could have Od 3 or 4 days later and be as early as 6w1d yesterday. A couple days off on an early u/s is not unusual. Was your u/s tv? If so, spotting could be from that. I hope everything turns out fine!

Just wanted to say that I had brown and even red spotting before from vaginal ultrasound with my one pregnancy that I carried to term. I hope that's the case and that LO keeps right on growing and growing! Hugs to you. It stinks to be in limbo. We've all been there.

Congrats on your pregnancy! You have gotten a lot of great advice. I have longer cycles and I ovulate late, so my dates are always later than I expect.

I think @KMW08 laid it out pretty well. Those measurements are totally within the range of normal given your dates. Sorry you are dealing with this stress! I hope you get answers soon.

Brown blood is usually older blood- could be old implantation bleeding that early. My MW explained that to me, I had a tiny bit of brown spotting the day befor my 7wk u/s.

My first u/s was at 6w0d exactly according the LMP (I had some cramping, Dr wanted to make sure it wasn't ectopic), and there was no fetal pole yet, just a sac measuring closer to 5 weeks. When I went in a 7w1d (LMP) there was a baby and healthy hb (they didn't tell me the exact measurement that time). I had some bleeding at 9w3d due to SCH and the baby measured 9w2d. So my first u/s was DEFINITELY off, since the baby is really only 1 day behind! I thought it would have been further behind because I know I ovulated on day 17. Those really early ones are much less accurate. In fact my MW said measurements done before 8 weeks are not very accurate, so my 9w one was probably accurate. Hope that helps!
