aw - vacation away question

So DH & I were trying to plan a vacation without DD and I half jokingly sent my mom a Facebook message asking if they [my parents] would want to come babysit DD and she said yes! My parents have been talking about visiting for sometime now and so this is helping them pull the trigger on buying plane tickets to Manila, quite the flight to babysit. They'll probably stay for 2 weeks and we'll leave DD with them for 6 nights.

We're not planning to go until November but it's exciting to think about!

Who has vacationed without LO before?
How long?
How'd you feel about it? 

I'm guessing it'll be easier to leave her in November because she'll be almost 2 already. And even though we have a nanny we could leave her with and she doesn't know my parents well I think it would be comforting to know she has relatives with her while we're gone. She warmed up to my FIL and SIL quickly when they visited last month.

    Yay! DH and I went to Mexico (we live in Canada) for a week in January before DS turned 1. It was awesome! It was nice to have alone time and just be free to come and go as we pleased. Of course we missed DS and we got photo updates throughout the week, but I definitely think we will have a child free vacation every couple years (yearly if we could afford it). Oh and DS had no problem with it. They just kep him busy. We are actually send him to my parents for a week in June because my daycare is taking vacation.

    We've not had the chance to take more than a night away from both our LOs we spent the night at a hotel casino and left the babies with DH's parents and it was glorious! Being able to relax and enjoy us for even the one night was pretty amazing. I am so happy to hear that you are able to do 6 nights!! I am very jealous :P At some point DH and I want to leave for a longer period, but the only person in our family who feels comfortable enough watching 2 babies is my mom who raised my brother and I ( DH was an only child). It is difficult leaving them but try not to freak out too much and just remember that your parents are more than capable!

    When we were back in the US visiting family for the holidays we left DD with my parents for 4 days and went to Mexico.  We went toward the end of our two week trip so DD felt more comfortable with my parents and didn't have any issues except crappy weather in Mexico!

    We also left DD with the nanny for two nights because I needed to be in Istanbul for a wedding and DH was in Burma for work and neither of us could bring her along.  It went well and we're hoping to do it again for a short babymoon before #2 comes.

    DH loved it. If he goes again I'll try to find the time to go with him.  It's also high on our list of places we'd like to find for future gigs, though I suppose I should go myself before I sign on the dotted line!
