Baby Measuring Small Based on Date of + Test

I have had two miscarriages, and was so hopeful that this pregnancy would be the one that stuck. I got a positive pregnancy test and a beta draw of 46 on Thursday, March 20th. I continued to get beta draws until last Thursday, when my level was above 21,000. Today, I had my first appointment and got an ultrasound. The baby only measured 6 weeks exactly, though it did have a heartbeat at 122 bpm.

Those dates just don't add up to me. I don't know the date of ovulation, but based the date of the first positive test and beta draw, I thought I should be at least 6w5d. My doctor told me that she would not give me the regular first appointment discussion or list of dos and don'ts since we don't know if it's viable yet. She also told me that after this miscarriage, I should see a reproductive endocrinologist. So basically, she isn't hopeful at all.

Is there any way that this can result in a healthy pregnancy? Is there anything I am missing with those dates?

It doesn't seem that far off so id say it's possible to be fine. This is why know in when you O is helpful. Since you don't, you could be 6w and a few days and ultrasounds can be off by a few days.

I'm so sorry you are going through this! I don't have any answers for you but wanted to say you'd be in my thoughts and I hope that this is your sticky baby. 5 days doesn't sound impossibly far off to me- but I'm not a Dr!

At this stage the dates can be off by several days. The fact there's a heart beat sounds promising.
I think it's in poor taste and rather tacky that you're Dr was so negative.

Don't lose hope....you're not far off...typically, unless you know exactly when you conceived and implanted, dates can usually be off by even a week with everything being fine...you got a great hb, which is really key! My first u/s, this baby measured 6w2d and had a hb of 115...I was thinking I should have been almost 8 weeks. They made me do a 2nd u/s a week later and baby measured 7w5d with a hb of 150. They pushed my due date back a week to 11/12...but everything seems to be progressing fine...I'll go back for my next appt 5/2 (1st trimester screen). Whatever you do, stay away from google! I drove myself crazy reading horror stories about babies measuring off! You sound like you are right where you should be! With my DS, we did IVF so I definitely knew how far along he was but he measured 4 days behind early on...and I'm pretty sure my DD was also a bit behind too (she was conceived natural but based on my chart I ovulated day 16).

Everything I've read states that dating ultrasounds can be off 3-5 days. This can be due to late implantation or just an inaccurate measure. The baby is so small that a millimeter can mean days. The heartbeat of 122 bpm sounds promising to me. FX that your doctor is wrong and everything turns out ok! I personally wouldn't lose hope just yet.

I agree with what others have said about possibility of dates being off, but I mostly just wanted to say I hope you get good news at your next appointment. When do you go back ?

On my first appointment I went in thinking I was 7w3d but the baby measured 6w5d. She said 5 days difference was nothing because of how small he/she is at this time. My Dr said they would get a better idea of a due date at the next appt. Also we could see the heartbeat perfectly but could not get a reading on how fast it actually was. My Dr wasn't negative about anything though. She said everything looked great and we should expect a baby anywhere between Halloween and Thanksgiving at this point.

Don't worry. My little bean measured 6 days behind my LMP and my doctor isn't concerned at all.

try not to worry too much just yet. My dr told me at my 1st appointment I was 9 days behind where I thought I was based on my last period but she attributed the delay to my longer than usual menstrual cycle. my period ranges from 30-37 days so i don't know when exactly i ovulated. keep us posted good luck!

I'm going to agree with others that based on your dates, you could be 6 weeks and a day or two (if you found at 10 or 11 dpo), so I definitely wouldn't give up hope yet. I really hope things are measuring right on track at your next appointment!

We knew when I ovulated with DS because I had done injections and an IUI with a trigger shot. DS measured 4 days behind consistently. He was just a late implanter. Fingers crossed that's all you this is!
