A lot of sucking and rocking...

...is going down tonight. (No, not that kind.)

I finally bought a Nosefrida and a RNP at Target just now. My DS1 has a cold and LO always has boogers that refuse to come out with the bulb sucker. So either way I'm going to get some good use out of it.

I know I could probably find the answer somewhere on here but I'm mobile and won't be at my computer for a while. So can you guys fill me in on the whole Nosefida thing? The thought is kinda freaking me out.

Do I have to use saline? Or can I use water to soften boogies? Can I use it on my 3yo too?

And

Do your LOs sleep in the RNP at night as their primary bed? If so, did you ever have a problem with them slouching down too far?

TIA
:D

  • In unrelated news, I remember someone saying they wish they could "bold" their words using mobile. Just can't remember who wanted to know. If anyone else wants to know how to do it I'm going to post it in the random thread. :)

  • LO sleeps in his RnP a lot and we haven't had any issues with slouching. He really likes it so I hope your LO does too!
  • I can't help with the nosefrieda but we have a RNP. I put LO to bed initially in his bassinet but he typically ends up in the RNP at some point over night. I find if I make a point to position him so his bum is down in the seat and not above it he is less likely to move down.

  • I use the nose frida almost daily. You don't have to use the saline, but I find it to be much easier when I do. I assume you could also use it on your 3 yr old. We also have a rock n play and we just use it for daytime naps. Our pediatrician advised against using it for all night sleep so it makes me too nervous to use it at night (although she'd probably sleep better and longer!)
  • I've tried without saline and it works, but not as well. I've used it on my 3 year old and he thinks its hilarious!!

Do you know why you were advised against using it all night?

So you just stick it in their nose and suck?? And it comes right out? Won't a few drops of water work the same as saline?

I'm hoping my 3yo will think its funny. He has been a bit of a drama queen lately but he is super plugged up so I feel like I should use it on him. Wish me luck!!
  • Saline makes using the nosefrida much easier. You could probably just use the packets that come with Neti pots or other nose rinses and use that.
I would imagine use the nosefrida on your 3 year old.
  • @JA82406‌ Our pedi told us she needed to be flat on her back which is why the rock n play doesn't work. He also said it could cause her head to slouch, cutting off her airway. However, I know tons of people who use it for sleeping with no problems. I'm just a paranoid first time mom, especially because our pedi told us no.
  • @jrosa1‌ DD sleeps in her RnP every night because of reflux and has never had an issue with her head tipping forward. our pedi recommended it and said it's perfectly safe to lay that way plus it has a hard back, not a lot of padding, and has mesh sides. she loves it! when she first went in a few weeks ago she slouched because short but now that she's a bit longer, we don't really have that issue any more. (I kinda think the swaddle added to the slouching because she would pull her feet up in it.) I do remember someone saying they would roll up a swaddle and put it under LO's feet to help with the slouching but I never tried that.

    Just posted it.
  • She sleeps in the RnP every night & I have swaddled rolled up under her butt and feet to keep her from sliding. She's only last 10 mins in her crib but will sleep 4-6 hour stretches in her RnP as long as I swaddle her
