Car seat canopy

Okay so this is a product that did not exist(or I didn't know about) when my youngest was a baby. I would love to get one for our chicco key fit car seat. Anyone have one they have used with this car seat that they liked? Also trying to decide if I should get one that has a slit in front or just drapes. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

I still don't see a single reason for one of these.

I am actually curious as to why you would need one.

How about when LO is napping and you've got to run errands. It would protect baby from sun (summer) and strangers! We had the thick fleece one because it was winter so I've thought about getting or sewing one for this baby. I'd like to have one that just has the slit in the middle that possibly snaps or ties.

That being said, I've heard of others having issues with car seat canopy stealing peoples CC numbers.

  • I guess I thought it would be nice to use for walks to shade the baby. I remember in the past blankets would always slip off or not cover all the way. I also like the idea of having the handles free.
  • If it's that free one you pay shipping on, it's basically just the same as a blanket. It flaps in the wind and doesn't stay in place. As a FTM I thought it would be so awesome. We used it once. Total waste of money, IMO.
  • I see tons of them in my area and I purchased one to use. But really we see so much rain near Seattle it's almost needed.

This. We spend a lot of time outside and LO will be too little for sunscreen this year. The one we have is thin enough not to make it hot like a blanket would. Plus it keeps strangers from messing with her when in public, especially while she's sleeping.
  • We never used one with DD who was also a May baby.  And it wasn't something I ever wished I had gotten.  However, I did carry DD a lot in the sling rather than leave her in the car seat.

We're outside all the time in warm weather and have never seen a need. The canopy on the infant seat is plenty big enough for adequate sun coverage.  I'd think it would just get hot in the sun under one of these. Also, if someone tried to mess with my kid while she was in her car seat I woulda cut a bitch. Don't touch the baby. Rule one.

DD was a January baby and arrived during a week of 3 different snow "storms". We never used one even when she was in her car seat the first few weeks. Then I just wore her everywhere since you're not supposed to leave babies in the car seat if they're not in the car. Sleeping in them is not good. And just laying in them (swings, and other baby care items with that positioning) all the time is why plagiocephaly has increased and there's all this push for tummy time.

I got one and I'm so excited to use it. It's really windy in our area and sometimes very hot so I'm thinking it will be a nice sun and wind break! Although if you order from the actual car seat canopy brand website they advertise a lot don't waste your money on the seat cover and head support. We were told by the hospital that while yes it's cute its strongly advised that you don't use them as car seats are tested as is and adding material could be potentially fatal if you were in a wreck :/ so glad to know that ahead of time! Unfortunately you can't return anything to that company!
  • I got the car seat cover not really thinking about the time of year I was having this baby. D'oh. Oh well, it was $15or so for the shipping to canada. I'm not out a lot. Plus it gave me something to buy for my 3rd, there's nothing I need to get, so even this small baby purchase made me feel like I'm not neglecting this pg, if that makes any sense?!

This.  I'm in the Seattle area as well.  Although we had a nice summer last year, we never know what we're in for and having something to cover the baby if it rains is essential.

Ditto (Olympia area here). I wouldn't have got one if it didn't rain all the time here.
  • I am more concerned about sun.... I remember when my youngest was born(June)and we would go for walks the breeze would always blow the blanket off and I would constantly be readjusting. I guess I hoped that the canopy would be different. I actually just had a friend offer to lend me hers so I get to try it out first!
  • I'm also in the NW but this is a product I've never owned and/or even considered. We've never had issues with rain and baby getting wet in the bucket. My first was born in january and if ever needed we just tossed a blanket over the seat.
