PSA Giveaway board

I supposedly "won" one of the five days of freebies. However, in order to collect I am supposed to fill out a form that has all of my personal information, including my Social security number, then have this form notarized and sent back. The form states I give "Kushies USA" permission to distribute all of my personal information. What a load of crap.

Re: PSA Giveaway board

  • I thought the same thing when I saw the email with the form we were supposed to fill out. Boo :(

  • I emailed and asked why they would need my ssn when I gave them my address and they can link the conversations to my account. I was told they don't actually need my social for prizes under $600. Just the rest of the information. First if all, shady. Secondly, I am not signing anything that gives anyone the right to distribute my personal information. What a giant disappointment and I loved this website.

  • Is that even legal? I know a while back, there was lots of talk in the blogosphere about giveaways and how sketchy they can be (something about how they're essentially lotteries and therefore are supposed to be regulated? Maybe? I don't know... my brain is fuzzy.) I assume the Bump would have crossed all their ts, etc. but I wouldn't be giving my social insurance number out no way no how. And who are they distributing your info to?!?

  • I think it's taxable so they would need your Ssn. I won some Martha Stewart baby stuff with baby #1 and Ssn was needed. I rec'd tax forms at the end of the year too and had to claim everything as income. Good luck.

This! Anything over a certain amount of money requires your SSN# so they can give the info to the IRS!

Yep!  I once won a pretty nice Broadway/NYC trip from Macys, and I had to do all of the tax paperwork.  If it's under a certain amount, you should be able to argue on that part (if you care to fight for it) - not sure it's worth it.
