Toy Storage options

Toys are everywhere. We have lots of pieces and bigger toys. I cannot count how many books.

I've been stalking pinterest, but we don't room for big bookcases or seating storage in the living room.  Our house is rather small and we utilize our living room.  I don't mind having toys in the living room, but they are out of control.   Here are my questions:

1.  What do you guys do?  Do you use those bookcase like storage things?

2.  Do you rotate toys?

3.  What do you do with the larger toys such as a little people scooter?

Anything else you folks could help me with would be greatly appreciated.  I am looking for organization that is really going to work.  I'm hoping not to spend a ton of money on something that doesn't work for me.  Pictures are always helpful! Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

We have 2 of these cubes in Nancy's room (in white) that have fabric drawers in them.  In around 1/2 of the cubes we have books, in the other 1/2 we have fabric drawers and put toys in them.

Downstairs in the play/craft room, we have this:
    Tot Tutors Pastel Toy Organizer
My BFF actually has 2 of these in her living room since they're in a 2 bedroom apartment and her boys share a smaller room.  For us, this works awesome.  Especially because we have a million fricking blocks.

Edit: Both of these are from Target.

We have a cushioned footstool that has storage inside. We use the cube storage, with the fabric baskets for smaller toys, and the open cubes for slightly larger toys and books. I park his riding toy in the small area by the side of the couch. (No pictures as I'm in Atlanta Georgia). I keep his biggest toys downstairs in the playroom, and will occasionally take them upstairs for something different.

Here's her bedroom....obviously this was before we brought her home, so the toys & books were manageable.  Now almost all of the shelves are full.

  • We have ikea expedit storage units with itso bins from target. Big toys are getting out of control so I think we may have to start rotating some of them.

  • Ive been avoiding the storage cube craze, but it sounds like it is the way to go. I was thinking with the cubes it would be easier to rotate toys. Thank you everyone for the ideas. @mssm2012‌ i just noticed it's about time! How exciting!

Rotate the toys to only have a little bit in the family room. Also, get rid of the baby toys she doesn't play with anymore (either attic or give away). I don't like having toys in the bedroom but the few that we do have, stay in the bedroom. I try to keep the gameroom toys upstairs only so they don't clutter up the family room.

We have a built in next to the fireplace that our tv is on. The cabinets under have the cheap storage bins. I also have a basket under an end table that has additional toys and books. The play kitchen and ride ons get tucked away in a corner.

  • Toy rotation was the best thing I did for the boys.

We have the same cube style shelf with the bins, but ours is only two across. Her toy kitchen is still in our living room until I rearrange her room. I don't want to turn the light on in her room, but her closet has a big organizing system that holds her clothes and she has some of her larger toys in there too (like her little people farm and shopping cart). Her closet looks similar to this one...
