Advice for SI pain?

Help!  I messed up my left SI joint last week and it has progressively worsened over the weekend.  Now I feel like my left leg is going to collapse under me when I walk.  Ironically, I think I injured myself in prenatal yoga.  :/  I'm trying to schedule some therapeutic massage in the next day or two, at the advice of my midwife.  Any suggestions for relief in the mean time?

Re: Advice for SI pain?

  • I have SI issues and alternating hot and cold therapy is super helpful. Massage is a must. I'd also recommend chiropractic care but it would be hard if you haven't seen one before to go this far along. light stretching also. Things like child's pose supported by pillows cause of your belly I also bed over and rest my hands on a short stool since I can't bend all the way over without falling. Make sure you're well supported when sitting or lying down as well as awkward sleeping/sitting positions will only aggravate it. - Note: Not a doctor or healthcare profession just letting you know what works for me.

  • Stretching helps mine a bit. Sit on a chair with your legs at 90°, then bring one foot up to your other knee and rest your ankle there. Straighten your spine as much as you can and lean slightly forward while you rest one hand on your ankle and one on the other knee.

You should feel your glutes and surrounding tendons stretch. Hold for 30-60seconds and then switch. Be sure to keep your spine as straight as possible and extend it more for a better stretch.

Not a doctor, but had this suggested to me during my last pregnancy and it seemed to help alleviate the pain. Hope you get some relief soon!
