Weird stomach tightening all day?

I am 34 weeks pregnant. Since about 9 am (it is now 8 pm) I have been experiencing some weird stomach tightening. First, my chest feels tight. Then, my head feels hot and I almost feel like I can't breath (similar to a panic attack.) Then my stomach gets rock hard. It has been happening all day. I haven't seen a pattern besides the fact that it simply hasn't stopped. I did go to the doctor for my regular appointment and she simply said she wasn't sure and blamed it on Braxton Hicks. I also noticed that a lot of times, when I stand, my stomach is rock hard, also. My doctor didn't seem concerned about this but I have lost 3-4 pounds as well.

Could this be an early sign that labor is approaching? Has anyone experienced this?

  • Sounds to me like Braxton Hicks. If it's not painful, cramping, bleeding, water didn't break...most likely it's just Braxton Hicks. Drink extra water and put your feet up.

  • Sounds a lot like how my Braxton Hicks feel.

Don't know about the weight thing.
  • My stomach gets really hard at night sometimes and my OB said Braxton hicks as well. Also I've noticed that since she's gotten bigger I haven't had as big of an appetite so my weight hasn't changed much. Maybe that's what's going on?

  • I will be 34 weeks on Thursday and hae also noticed that I am getting many more BH contractions. When I stand up my stomach is rock hard, everytime!! I think it's normal. As for the weight loss, I have noticed my appetite is off and I have also lost a bit of weight, could just be our bodies going through the difficult last few weeks of pregnancy! I'm a first time mom though so I am not 100% sure
  • But would you say that it is normal for this to go on all day long? I think that is what is worrying me.
  • If you saw your doctor today and she wasn't concerned, I personally wouldn't be either unless something has changed since you saw her.

This sounds like how my BH feel too. Sometimes I get them all day long. Other days, not so much. I got called in to labor and delivery one time because I was having more than six an hour for more than three hours. (My doctor asked me to report it to L&D until I was 34 weeks).

With pregnancy, I think "normal" is difficult to define.  It sounds like you're still nervous about it so I would put in another call to your doctor or labor and delivery.
  • Oh.
    It's you again.
Call your fucking doctor- and if you don't like his/her answer, change practices.

    On a real note..
Do you think anyone is taking you seriously?
You're 34 weeks PG and explaining symptoms of what seems like labor- get off your ass, call your doctor, and don't post on here asking stupid questions looking for support when CLEARLY you don't reciprocate.
I have ZERO patience to deal with shit like this.

    Rant over.
    Maybe.
  • Surprise! There is not a new group of bumpies on the May board than from 4 days ago. Yep, still us same bishes.

It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
  • Maybe you should be as persistent with your doctor as you are on these boards.

Just like last time, you think you are experiencing signs of labour, call the doctor.
