recommendations for a small, flat napper for the living room?

One of our friends lent us her Graco swing and LO absolutely LOVES it. We have it in the living room and she takes most all of her naps there. Also, if she's screaming, it calms her down almost immediately, so she's been spending a lot of time there recently...too much time, we worry!  My husband keeps showing me articles about how you're supposed to limit a baby's swing time and now I'm paranoid, so I'm looking for something a bit more crib-like (i.e. flat) that we can put in the living room for her to sleep in during the day. She's not really in any type of routine yet, so I don't think it makes sense to put her upstairs in the crib or pnp every time she starts to drift off. I was looking at bassinets, but I think she'd outgrow that too soon. She's 5.5 weeks now and pretty tall/long, so I'd want something that she wouldn't outgrow *too* soon. Also, our living room is too small for something like another pnp. I was looking at this -- it's a flat rnp:

Anyone have one of these or have any other suggestions?  We've tried just laying her on the floor on a blanket or on the activity mat, but I don't think she likes being totally 'open' and I'm always scared she'll get stepped on because we don't have a lot of floor space!

  • Check out the Graco travel crib. We use it as a bassinet in our bedroom. It is smaller than a PNP but just as portable and has an adjustable bassinet accessory.

  • I have the RNP Bassinet and it's cool. The mattress part is pretty soft and easily washable/dryable. I'm just starting to have her sleep in it for naps and nights and she seems to be adjusting well. The footprint isn't too big either.

  • Another vote for rock n play bassinet. We use it at night in our room but it's small and can go anywhere.
I hope to create a real siggy but first I need some sleep!

  • We have the RNP bassinet and love it! She naps and sleeps in there at night. Super light and easy to move around.
  • What do the articles say about swinging?

If so, it's super cute. However, it says it's only good for infants up to 25 inches and LO is already 22.5, so I don't see it lasting much longer. Would have been good to have from the beginning though probably!

I looked up the Little Lounger, but I can't really tell -- does it lay completely flat?  I like that it has the vibrations. I'm not sure if LO is into that, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt!

I'm glad to hear that so many people have the RnP bassinet and like it. I think that's what I'm leaning towards, though the Little Lounger has possibilities as well...

    Thanks for the input! :)

CD7211, I'll try to find the articles. I think basically it's bad for their necks and legs, it compresses their windpipes, etc. LO loves the swing so much right now we won't give up using it all together, but we probably should cut back...

  • BlueDot818 -- Hmm, I'm not sure. The weight limit is so much higher (25 lbs vs. 15 lbs.) that I assumed it was longer as well, but maybe it's not?  Crap!
