Breastfeeding

2 sides to 1

My daughter usually fed on both sides when she ate. Over the past week, she has only been feeding on one side. Will my supply even out to only feeding on one side? Right now, I am getting very sore on the side she's not feeding from. She eats about every 3-4 hours.

Re: 2 sides to 1

  • Do you want to only feed on one side? Just wondering why you don't guide her back to 2 sides. My LO has always nursed on both sides, but it's not by her choosing - I stop her and switch boobs. She's used to that routine and doesn't object (well, unless I'm not quick enough). I've never just let her nurse until she stops on the first side.

  • Yes, it will even out and your LO might switch things up on you again down the road. My LO changes his routine all the time and I have never had an issue.
  • We usually feed from one side per feeding, unless he roots again after he's finished on one side. I let him stay on the breast as long as he wants, whether it's ten minutes or forty. We haven't had any issues.

  • I only feed one side at a time and it works great!  He was eating fine that way and it was easier so I just went with it.  Your supply will regulate itself with LO's eating pattern.
