Alright ladies im looking for some reassurance. I will be 20 weeks on Wed and have yet to feel baby (that I know of anyways) and im not yet showing. I am overweight and assume that may have something to do with the latter. Everyone says this is normal. Still it's hard not to worry. We have anatomy scan on Thursday and will get to know the sex. Trying not to make myself crazy till then

I understand what you are going through. With my first I felt her move around 16 weeks and I really didn't start showing until about 20 weeks and then it was so sudden that I wasn't expecting it (I popped overnight)! With DD2 I thought something was really wrong because I still hadn't felt her move until 21 weeks. She was my second so I thought I would know what expect and feel her sooner. I was so nervous at every appointment but at the anatomy scan they told me that my placenta was in the front and likely absorbing her movements. Try not to worry and GL at your anatomy scan! JM

  • I just started feeling him move this week. Just started to show last week, and boom, insta baby belly. I was kind of freaking out about it until then too.

I had the same experience as previous posters.  I already had a belly before pregnancy, so it was probably 21-22 weeks before it became a definite baby belly.  Also, with the anterior placenta, I didn't feel regular movement as soon as others on my birth month board did.  Good luck with your A/S!

  • Here's my advice :) pay really close attention to the movements on the screen at your anatomy scan. I bet you are feeling things but not sure if it's a gurgle, gas, or baby and at some point in your scan you will actually feel a kick or roll. Those scans are very accurate and you can see all the details in a slow relaxed atmosphere. Take that time to watch and feel, ignore everything around you and just think "baby". I'm hoping your baby is wiggly during your scan only for your enjoyment (tech won't like it) and you get to feel a head rub or a long stretch kick.

Good luck, it will come, promise :)

  • I agree with the poster above that you may actually be feeling movements, but not know how to identify them. Everyone kept telling me "bubbles" or "butterflies" but I never got that. It took someone to use to comparison of when you go swimming in a lake or creek and fish swim up and nibble on your legs...that feeling. I feel that ALL the time and now it has started on both sides.

My doctor told me I would start to feel things between 18 and 22 weeks, so you're still on par. I couldn't feel anything last Monday and now I feel my little "minnows" all the time. So a lot can change overnight too!

  • Thanks ladies for the responses and encouragement. I have been feeling "butterflies" today. Not sure if it's in my head or actually happening. At any rate my anatomy scan us tomorrow morning so I will be able to finally breathe and relax. And I can stop driving my poor husband crazy by asking him 100 times a day if he thinks baby is okay. Lol Can't wait to find out the sex tomorrow, hope baby cooperates.

Reassurance is a good thing. I think we all have our stresses and its normal. I am sure you will have a great scan!

  • I didn't really feel any movement until 20 weeks, and just a few flutters here and there when I did (usually in the morning before I woke up, when I was really still).

Now, I am almost 23 weeks and feeling much more regular movement. Still mostly flutters, but a few bigger kicks and such.

My doc said some women don't feel anything until up to 24 weeks. Don't panic.

Yes, I was expecting a light, fluttery feeling because everyone kept saying "butterflies." Mine felt more like little muscle twinges, but from the inside. It took a bit to realize what they were, but now I can identify them much more regularly.

  • I remember it being late with my first to really identify movement. I am sure I got little pings and twinges here and there but nothing that was obvious to me. I think your in the zone where you shouldn't worry to much. I notice this time around with my second its more noticeable. Good luck with your scan, I am sure that will give you all the reassurance you need.

  • Congratulations on the good A/S, and welcome to team girl!  (I just can't accept calling it team pink ... sorry ...)!

I know it's been a couple more days so maybe these aren't worries anymore, but just in case ... I also didn't feel movement til pretty late (and don't have an anterior placenta or any other reason) - when I did at first it was maybe like little flutters or even more like little bubbles popping.   Someone else first posted the bubble description (sorry, don't remember who) and that was really helpful to me.  Most of what I read said people feel movement more while laying down but I felt it more sitting up, especially in the car or when leaning forward like to use the computer non-ergonomically.  It was well into the 20s of weeks - I think late 20s - before my husband or I could feel movement from the outside.  I wasn't really overweight pre-pregnancy but basically all extra weight I did have is in the form of belly flab so that didn't help with feeling from the outside.  I think the baby's position can make a big difference, too, in what you feel.

Also, I was late to show, too.  Didn't have to go into mat. pants until about 21 weeks and even then it wasn't an obvious baby bump until much much later.

Anyway ... that is all just to say, you're not alone!  Totally understand the worry that now showing as much as others or feeling as much movement as others do can cause!  The good A/S is really fantastic news and the rest will come.
