Anyone else measuring big?

I measured big at my 22 wk appt, and now again at my 26 wk appt today. They said they're going to monitor it, asked how big my husband and I were when born (both under 8lbs), and said they'll likely do a 35/36 wk ultrasound to check on baby. Now I'm also anxious to get my GD results back! Anyone else measuring big or did you in past pregnancies?

Re: Anyone else measuring big?

  • With my first pregnancy, I never was told I was measuring big. With this 2nd pregnancy though I was told at my 20 a/s ultrasound that he was measuring pretty big. The doc said that she will be doing growth scans starting at my 28 week appt. DS1 was 6 lbs 5 oz born at 39weeks. Hoping this baby isn't crazy huge.. birthing a 6 pounder was hard enough, I cant imagine anything bigger! Doc did mention that this LO will most likely be bigger than DS1.. %-(

  • At both the 11 week and 20 week scan He measured in the 97% percentile.  They had me do the Glucose test early at 20 weeks because of the size.  HAHAHA they keep asking if my dates are right!   YIKES!!  We have another level 2 on the 28th of this month, it will interesting to see if he is still measuring that big

  • Me!!!  They started measuring at like 16 weeks because my uterus felt high.  I have consistently measured about four weeks big, via tape measure.  At my anatomy scan the baby itself measured about a week or so big.  No further tests or measures have been taken to date.
  • With DD I fluctuated a lot measuring ahead one week and then right on track the next. She was only 6.15 at birth. This LO I measured 26 weeks at my 24 week appointment midwife said nothing about it.

  • I've been measuring consistently about one week ahead since my first ultrasound.  At my last appointment, there was a substitute nurse (because my nurse just had a baby) and she was talking and acting like my EDD had been moved up a week because of it.  I was 24w5days weeks at the time, but she said I was measuring closer to almost 26 weeks.  I have a mental note to talk to my doctor about it the next time I see him.  With my DD, I measured pretty much on time for the most part, and she ended up being an 8 pounder. My OB said that second babies are usually bigger and boys are bigger than girls, so he estimated a 9 pound baby this time.  We'll see if he's right, I guess!

Anecdotally I have seen moms measure all over the place and have babies all over the range, so it doesn't necessarily directly correlate. For me, I measured spot-on my entire pegnancy with DS (no GD) and he popped out over 10 lbs. Measuring on time for this one, and probably will continue to, but am still expecting a big baby. I mean, it is good for your dr to keep a check on it, but it doesn't mean you need to panic about a huge baby.

  • Yep I'm measuring a week ahead this pregnancy and DS measured two weeks ahead the entire time. DS is 18 months and 3 feet tall, DH is 6'6" and I'm 6' so measuring big is expected. The ultrasound tech was confused and kept verifying she had the correct due date put in.

  • My ob told me I was measuring a couple of weeks big at my last appointment. I never measured big with DD. I am getting growth u/s every 6 weeks due to my thyroid disorder anyway so we will see what they say next week. At all my other u/s so far he has been measuring right on track though.

  • I am, 5 days ahead at the ~20 week US. I think baby's position/angle sometimes effects measurements. Unless error is  just weight related. I know that when they estimate weight it IS just an estimate.

  • My ob/gyn said I am measuring a bit ahead but that it doesn't mean too much yet for the size she will actually be when born. He said the growth rate can really fluctuate at this point. He also said the 32 week mark is when they will really start taking that into account and plan accordingly from then on (due date/induce or not/etc.)
