Irrational nesting question

So DH and I have decided to put our town house for sale ( as of next wed ). We knew we were going to need to move when we decided to have #2 and it was supposed to be on the market months ago but due to never ending reno projects its JUST ready now.
I feel like were crazy trying to sell and move this close to #2 but were kinda in it now.
The thing Im having the hardest time with is theres no nursery...nothing to decorate, everything has to stay in boxes packed away, I just feel like Im not and cant prep for baby at all except my hospital bag. DH keeps telling me that if we havent sold when Im around 34 weeks we can put up the bassinet and use one of our dresser drawers for baby clothes.
Its so silly...I know it shouldnt matter that Im not decorating but hormonal me feels upset :(  Is anyone as crazy as we are and moving or have a place with no nursery to decorate ??

Re: Irrational nesting question

  • Not me personally but a friend who is also pregnant is moving and wont be moving into their new house until she is 36-37 weeks. they currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment and her DSD lives with them. So she doesn't have anything to decorate or really even a place to store things like a bassinet or pack n' play. Its making her crazy! You are not alone in that feeling.

  • We moved when I was 35 weeks pregnant with DD. I was a little disappointed not to be able to do a nursery but in the end it didn't really matter anyways. DD slept in our room/bed for almost 2 yrs. Now she is in her own room in a full sized bed and I am having so much fun decorating her "big girl" room; trying to make up for her lack of a nursery.

  • We aren't moving, but we didn't set up a nursery for this LO. All this baby needs is a crib and that is set up in DD's room. No decorating for us, thank goodness.

  • We don't have the space to do a nursery and are moving a couple months after the birth anyway so there's no point - I feel your pain.

My birth bag has been packed and re-packed most days for a while now and I'm having to channel the urge into spring cleaning/sorting out stuff for when we do move.

Do you have a closet or some drawers you can throw everything out of and put back neatly just to focus the nesting instinct on something?
  • Its so nice to hear Im not alone ! Dh just doesnt get it, to him , the baby doesnt NEED a space. I understand that LOL I just WANT to make a space for him. Lets cross our fingers the house sells fast and we have the opportunity to decorate shortly after hes born in a brand new place :)

  • We didn't even get furniture for the nursery until I was 36w+ so I don't understand the nesting urge. Until I need it for baby it's just stuff that's in the way.

  • I understand the antsy feeling, I've been reorganizing, cleaning, etc. for a while now and it's only getting worse the closer I get to my due date.  My hospital bag has been packed and repacked at least 6 times.  I'd go crazy if I wasn't able to fiddle and fix things!  Maybe try redirecting the energy and clean the bathroom til it sparkles?

We didn't have a separate space for DS, but to satisfy my desire to clean/decorate & prepare for his arrival I created scrapbooks. It was nice to have a project once DD was in bed that was devoted to just DS. That could be an option.

Also, it helped me to make him a little suitcase with all of his little outfits & such. Easy to carry etc. & you can still fold/arrange.

  • I think if it's the only thing you have left to do, then its very normal,,especially since your house is probably all kept-up at this point in getting it sold,,,my house has a long list of things i need to do,so being that all we need for the baby is to set up the bassinet in our room & buy a few things, its the last thing i plan to do before baby arrives. i don't plan to decorate a room for it at all until its here because thats just how i am this time.

  • You could always plan what your nursery is going to be like in your new place, or is that not good enough?

  • I am 31 weeks and we just moved this past weekend. It has been driving me NUTS not being able to put stuff away and nest. At this point I don't even care about unpacking the rest of the house I just want to be in the baby's room. He will sleep with us for a while so it isn't so much a practical thing as it is just wanting to prepare and get ready to be a mama. I am sorry you are going through this.. Maybe there is something else you can do to help? For me it was shopping for cloth diapers. If you are crafty you could try making something for the baby or something to put your energy towards. Hang in there!
