At what temperature do you rotate your winter clothes out!?

Re: At what temperature do you rotate your winter clothes out!?

  • I slowly build summer things in then eventually find that I haven't worn winter stuff in a while so then it goes away. But we tend to have one warm day followed by one cool/cold day around here through a lot of spring, so I don't put stuff away for a while.

  • I pack up the heavy winter clothes about now. I did it last week. It is around 50 degrees today. I slowly add in summer items beginning in May. By June, I've completely switched it out.
  • Well, today it's 14 C here (around 57 F) and if I knew it would stay like this, I'd totally just completely switch out all our winter stuff now. I've been slowly packing things away the last several weeks though and all the winter jackets are already gone. Some of the heavier sweaters and winter hats are going to hang around a bit longer, just in case, though I'm pretty sure we're done with them.
I think... 50 F is around the temp you can start safely packing things away.

  • I have added the kids short sleeves into their drawers and a few pair of shorts. I won't out the winter stuff away for a few more weeks though. Our weather varies this time of year. Last week we had 3 days with temps in the 80s but this week is in the 50s. I don't put winter stuff away until it is consistently above 60.

This. Considering it was 50 and rainy yesterday and 70 right now, not this week.
  • I would love to switch out all the winter stuff right now but since it's Iowa, things can change any day.  I should rotate out the winter coats and snow pants because our new house has a tiny coat closet.  I would if I had  idea where the box is that I keep too small coats in.

I don't know really.  I pulled out the kids' summer clothes last weekend and added them to their closets, in the back (it has been in the 50s).  I put away their snow boots, snow pants, etc. but won't put the rest of it away until much later.
  • All my clothes fit in my closet or dresser

Son: I just put up the jackets that I knew he wouldn't be able to wear next year but still it all still fits in either his closet or dresser

  • Not a certain temperature but probably June for the kids. Whenever it's time to switch seasons I seem to have a month-long turnover of their clothes, especially DDs, because it'll be too cold to switch into warmer clothes but their cooler-weather clothes are getting too small, or vice versa. So I just have clothes all over the places for awhile before completing the overhaul.

I don't switch mine or DH's out, they just all stay hanging in our closets year-round.

  • We just pick day by day what suits the weather. I wear basically the same outfits year round except for ditching long sleeves on warm days. I have the tiniest wardrobe of anyone I know, though. Husband swaps out long pants for shorts in the summer except for regular work days (Fridays are casual). I favor long pants and long skirts.

Owen wears short sleeves year round, we just drop the long sleeves and he wears rompers and shorts more than long pants on the hot days.
  • I've packed away nothing so far.  Hopefully by the end of the week, I'll put away the snow pants.

  • I do it in stages!  I did stage 1 today actually.  I put up all the sweaters and most of the long sleeves.  I left the pants/jeans and a jacket.  My kid keeps trying to wear sweaters and it's been between 60-80 the last couple of weeks, so we are done.  I don't rotate adult clothes.  Our closet is big enough to hold them all year.  When we had a little closet, I did it when school was out because I could store away work clothes for the summer.

  • I haven't packed anything away yet. Since the weather is just getting nice I'm beginning to unpack tanks and tshirts--dd has been wearing cardigans over them. In her closet she has a bunch of skirts are dresses folded. When it starts being consistently warm everyday ill pack up her winter clothes and get her summer clothes out from last summer as I'm guessing lots of the dresses will still fit as she's pretty skinny.

  • I am doing this today for my girls-so overwhelming! I think our average now will be about 75, so I will keep light sweaters and jackets out for now.

My son wears short sleeves throughout the year-he is easy.
