We have a hoover steam cleaner; about $140 on Amazon. We use it pretty regularly to get the dog smell out of our carpets. It works well, but it is big and heavy. I'm thinking of getting one of the Bissell spot-bots for small messes.

I second the bissell. We got one to clean up after our pup a few years ago and it works great. Got it at target---watch for a sale or check Bed, Bath and Beyond---it could end up being cheaper there with a 20% off coupon.
