Our daycare is closed next Friday for Good Friday, which I didn't really think is a holiday they'd close for. My LOs will also be going away with my parents for a night or two, so they'll be in daycare 1, maybe 2 days next week. The following week we'll be away, which is also why I'm disappointed they're not open Friday the 18th, it would have been nice to send them so I could pack. They daycare has also closed for about 5 snow days. I'm a teacher so they do let me pull the kids for the summer and reregister them for the fall. They do not offer vacation time. Would it be out of line if I ask if they can give me a break or some kind of deal since my kids will be out for almost 2 week?
Re: vacation time
My DC has a 1 week vacation policy so you get one week where you don't have to pay, assuming that LO won't be there that one week.
That being said, we took a 2.5 week vacation last year to visit family in Asia and DC let us pull DS out for 2.5 weeks and only charged us for drop in days for the 0.5 week that he was there. We did have to pay our enrollment fee but it ended up being cheaper overall than paying for the full 2.5 weeks he was there. They probably did this only because it was a longer vacation - I doubt they would have accommodated us if we had left for only 1 week. And I know that the director who was there previously probably wouldn't have done it so it really was on a case by case basis.
And for FWIW, my DC is also closed for Good Friday. I agree with you that it's a holiday they shouldn't close for but I also live in Texas where the malls are closed on Easter Sunday so it doesn't surprise me.
I think that if you are going to ask for a break, you should take your kids out for the full 2 weeks but that's just my opinion.
Just ask.
At our old DC they charged me only 50% for the week I took DD out for a family vacation.
At my current DC they were going to charge me to hold a spot for DD even if she wasn't going to start attending for another month. And they don't give $ back for family vacations. But they do hold spots for the fall as summers are more camp-like and enrollment is separate.
I know for a fact that our DC would not cut us a break. We pay for any days that DS is not there and for any holidays. I wouldn't expect them to cut us a break though since I know they have people to pay and overhead expenses. We do get one week of vacation a year per our contract though. They are also closed for Good Friday.
