Preemies

34...39... whatever

So from the beginning of this pregnancy, my OB has said his goal was to get me to 34 weeks. He thought by that time my BP would be an issue but that LO would also have a good chance of doing really well, with possibly no NICU time (can I get an AMEN). He still thinks that. But the MFM thinks LO won't arrive until 39 weeks. Obviously neither of them are psychic but they are driving.me.crazy. I am so type A and such a planner... can't they just agree? Split the difference? Flip for it? They are both amazing doctors and I know that LO will be fine either way and that this isn't a "set in stone" type of day, but they are both SO sure. My OB won't even schedule my RCS yet because he thinks she'll be here at 34 weeks. Usually they are so in sync with each other... I told DH that I think they must have made a bet over when LO will arrive and they really want to win.

And there was no point to this except to find a place to write down my crazy. If my OB is right, that means she will be here in 3.5 WEEKS AHHHHH. And if the MFM is right, I can continue to be lazy for a few extra weeks. It's like Sophie's choice.

Re: 34...39... whatever

  • That's got to be frustrating to deal with!  Hopefully they'll both come to a consensus and your OB will schedule your RCS regardless of when they think LO will arrive.
This is what I'm saying. I loooove my OB but I just really want him to schedule it so I have a date. If it's wrong, fine; I can only imagine how many RCSs don't happen on the scheduled date if the mother goes into labor earlier. I am ready to lock them in a room and withhold food and water until they agree.

Can I just say first that I am SO EXCITED for you in the nicest creepy Internet stranger way? Yay!! 34 or 39 weeks!! I'd be happy with either, too! They really need to communicate and make a decision. It's not very professional for them to go back & forth like this. Maybe your OB will wait and see how you're doing at 34 weeks and then schedule it? I don't know how far in advance they usually schedule a RCS. What's your due date?

  • I bet it's frustrating that they won't at least make a plan. I'm a planner, so I totally feel you. It would be nice to have some idea.

I had my LO at 34+5 and he was pretty healthy, just needed a few days in the NICU to learn how to breathe. So while that wouldn't be my first choice, that sure is better than some alternatives. Hope you can bake that baby to 39, but I'm sure it'll be fine either way.

I am also so excited!!! I will totally take either, too! :) My EDD is June 10th. My OB said the latest he felt comfortable with was June 3rd, plus or minus a day or two, for the RCS. I guess he must be waiting to see how it goes, like you said. He just needs to use his psychic vision goggles and TELL ME NOW.

I am such a planner. It's possible I have a planning problem. I need a support group. I'm glad your LO is doing well! I would definitely prefer 39 weeks but if that isn't the case I just want to be prepared - arrangements for DS, etc. Here's hoping the MFM is right and wins the bet!

My MFM always trumped the OB  since she were the high risk experts. FX that baby stays in until 39 weeks!

  • Either way, it's awesome! I get what you're saying about the planning part. I'm kind of in limbo here, too. I'm glad things are going so smoothly for you and hope that baby stays in as long as possible!

  • We'll aim big - 39 weeks! My MFM is better-looking anyway. That counts for stuff, right?

  • Definitely hopeful that MFM is closer! Yay for baking babies as long as possible!
  • Oh dang, it's like Rock'em Sock'em Doctors and you're stuck in the middle! Either way (34 or 39 weeks) you have a right to be proud and excited! Still, it's nice to dream big! Go go 39 weeks!
