Nipple Stimulation (super long - Cooper's here!)

Even though I hadn't reached my due date yet, I was ready to get this baby out of me. Turns out nipple stimulation was the key!

Short Story: Cooper Grace was born at 5:15am on Monday, March 31st weighing a healthy 8lbs 5ozs at 20.5" long.

Long story: After "quality time" with my husband (a couple of times), bouncing on a yoga ball, eating about 20 pepperoncini peppers, AND McDonald's, there was nothing really going on beyond BH. We decided to go for some nipple stimulation for a while and contractions started coming more regularly around 630pm. They weren't super timeable, but we kept going and I got in and out if the bath as they turned from 6-7 mins, to 5-6 mins, to 3-4 mins. Hubs insisted I text the doula to let her know what was going on, I told her where I thought I was and she said to keep in touch. Around midnight my husband felt that the 3-4min window was sufficient to call the doc. The service that was on call wasn't my own so I told them where we were and they said it was up to us if we wanted to come in. I was handling things really well and still didn't think that we were necessarily in REAL labor so I thanked them and hung up. Around 3am the contractions were making me cry and I decided I was ready to go. We had texted the doula and she met us at the house just in time to head to the hospital. The drive there was the longest half hour of my LIFE and I was so uncomfortable that I considered stopping at one of the two hospitals we drove by (on the way to the hospital we were using) just to stop being in the car. By the time we got to the hospital and got me into a triage room I was starting to feel out of control and they wanted me to lay on the bed and do a 20 min strip to check my progress. This was not a part of my birth plan and the fact that i could no longer move around at all made me feel more out of control. By this time it was about 345am and I was getting to the hateful point. They checked me and I was at a 5, so we moved up to L&D. This was when I lost my shit. The nurses had an impossible time trying to get my IV in and ended up stabbing me four times and digging around in one arm. I felt completely out of control and just started yelling for everything to stop and telling everyone that I couldn't do it and I needed drugs. Unfortunately they couldn't get me drugs until my IV was in and they checked my cervix again. I yelled at my husband, I was completely irrational, I refused to cooperate, I was in so much pain that I couldn't be reckoned with. They finally got the IV in at 5 am and I was at a 9.5 so they told me no epi but I could have some (useless) phentanyl. 7mins later my doula told me to roll over on all fours to work through the pain and my water broke. 8 mins and 5 pushes later Cooper Grace came squirting unto the world (because I shot the rest of my amniotic fluid on to the on call OB). It was too fast for husband to catch her, and he was glad to stay dry anyway, my 9yo DD was able to be there (because my dad was late oicking her up) and cut the cord when it stopped pulsing, and Hubs got to trim it down and do some skin to skin with Cooper while the doc LITERALLY swept her hand around the inside of my uterus for some clots after I delivered the placenta, and I got to have my (mostly) med free birth (even though that wasn't what I wanted anymore).
