Honestly, I'd ask for the drops. They work better/faster and they can actually be less upsetting. Tell him to lay down and close his eyes and drop it into the inner corner. When he opens his eyes it'll naturally pull in. And the drops don't distort vision the way ointment does.
We have always been given ointment when DS gets an eye infection. They say as long as it's near the eye or on the lashes, it will melt from body heat and melt into the eye.

good to know. I actually was at pedi office yesterday and did ask about he drops(as elmoali mentioned)for future purposes. My pedi. was fine with giving them so I guess, like everything else, it depends on dr. or if you ask.
