Which pump do you prefer?

edited April 2014 in Breastfeeding
Hi ladies. I wasn't very educated on breastfeeding with my son, so this is all new to me. I am due in October with my 2nd and I just found out my insurance company will provide a dual electric breast pump for free to me. I am determined to make this work this time to at least a year! I would love any input from personal experience. I will be pumping at work after 3 months, so any info on how it is for pumping at work and on the go would be great as well! Thanks in advance!

Re: Which pump do you prefer?

  • @theresat858 The reviews look great The only two cons I have found is it can be loud/make a beeping noise and that the freezer bag wont fit in the pump bag like Medelas (which I don't really care since it will be for at work when I go back) I am so torn between Medela and Ameda. I like that Ameda has personal control settings, but Medela can do 70 pumps per cycle and I read it helps up the ounces pumped. If you had to pick which would you go with?

  • Loading the player...
  • That's what I was thinking...The Ameda has personal settings. Do you think there is a huge difference between 60 pumps per cycle vs 70? @theresat858 Sorry I am so new to pumping, I had a manual single one with my son. I was so un-educated.

@theresat858 Good point. I just talked to the lady from the company that ships them. I can order one and I can order a new one come january because my insurance covers 1 per calendar year. Score! Now I am less stressed since I will be home the first 3 months and January I can order the new one!

ETA: Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it!

  • I have a medela Pisa and a hygeia enjoy. I prefer the enjoye. I don't know about the Q.

  • I have a purely yours, a medela Pisa and meds freestyle. The purely yours is a piece if crap. As for pumping into bags, that's a big pain so don't invest in too many.

The purely yours is also not great for using with a hands free bra.

  • I currently EP and have an Ameda Purely Yours & a Medela PISA. I much prefer the Medela. It may sound like a good idea to have "personalized" settings, it's a pain in the ass to fiddle with & figure out what works. The NICU nurses have also told me that moms have much better success with the Medela than Ameda.

I have both the Hygeia Enjoye and the Medella in style. I feel I get more milk faster with my Hygeia since you control both speed and suction.

I also can't stand that medella let down button. It's such a nuisance to constantly need to press it and skip the slow setting every 3 minutes.

  • My ameda loses suction like crazy after 1.5 weeks use. This was after changing my valves as well. Not helpful w a supply when you have twins. I used a medela w a letdown button in the hospital and I think I'll look into renting one.
