head down = bladder relief? um, no!

The weekly updates all love to cheerfully claim that bladder pressure lessens and bathroom breaks become easier when the baby flips, but I call BS. I've never been more miserable. I was up half the night peeing a drop at a time and still feeling the urge. I remember this from my first pregnancy too. It's my very least favorite symptom of third tri.

Stop the lies, weekly update emails! Stop giving us false hope!

Re: head down = bladder relief? um, no!

  • I haven't seen that on anything that I can recall, but this LO has been head down since 22 weeks, and I have never had to pee so much in my life. It is way worse this time than it was with DS1. I agree that it is a lie.

  • I've seen it 3 or 4 times lately, usually something like "Baby has probably flipped, taking some of the pressure off your bladder." FALSE.

This sounds like a UTI.  You might want to have it checked out at your next OB appointment.

  • I'm the same way. My girl is head down and my bladder is miserable. I snissed at the grocery store shopping alone and was torn between abandoning my 1/2 full cart and finishing up with wet pants. Wet pants won. I had come too far so just swallowed my pride.

My urine always tests clean. It's just the way my bladder and urethra are positioned in relation to my uterus. It's worse when I lie down. Suuuucks.

  • Baby has been head down since at least 31 weeks and I've been peeing more. I wasn't night peeing until she flipped and since then I've been up a couple of times a night doing a thimble full. No UTIs, just an annoying baby!

  • I've been feeling so much pressure too and feeling like I have to pee just about every 15 minutes. So annoying!!

  • Are you sure you read that right, OP? I just read at the link below, "Now that your baby is head-down in preparation for delivery, chances are your bladder is feeling the squeeze, causing you to leak a little every time you sneeze (or cough or laugh) or making you feel like you have an urgent need to pee all the time."

BTW, my kiddo is breech and I still have to pee all the time!

  • I've read the opposite as well
  • I'll try to find the update I read. Maybe they just mean the baby's feet are no longer on the bladder, stomping around and causing actual pain.

Now, that one is totally accurate. I really wish I could remember which one I read most recently that said the opposite.

  • I've read it will be more pressure - and it sure is true!

But I also drink a lot of water … I crave it for some reason, so I don't help my situation.
  • I'm pretty miserable at this point.
I mean, surely it could be worse. But at this point, I seriously am up at LEAST 9 times in the middle of the night to empty my bladder that is BARELY full. No UTI- this has been going on since week 29. That, paired with itching from head to toe, RLS that gets worse by the day and no sleep- I'm mentally checked out..totally done here.
  • My little guy is also head down and I am having the worst time emptying my bladder / feel like I always have to go. No UTI either. I think he gets bored and likes to head butt my bladder for fun. :-w Drinking water around the clock doesn't help!

  • Bladder takes more abuse when they flip/get drop. Breathing often gets easier.

  • Feeling the need to pee but then almost nothing comes out is much worse this pregnancy than with DS. I have found a trick that seems to help actually empty my bladder.

My toilet at home is pretty low, which helps a lot. Public restrooms with those really tall pottys make it even harder for me to go. I lean really far forwards - I put a hand on the tub to keep from falling. I think that gets LO's head off of my bladder enough that I can actually urinate.

I do this to and it totally helps. At work I just lean forward and try to rest my elbows on my knees, which is somewhat awkward but worth the relief of getting it all out.

Hmm. Maybe I've flip-flopped those. I never had trouble breathing, though, so that's nice.

  • All the updates I've read say the opposite now that baby has flipped he or she will put more pressure on your bladder and every WORD of that is true.  Waking up 2-4 times a night to pee is a bitch.  Then having to waddle to the bathroom at work every hour or two is quite the adventure.
  • Yes I Pee so much more lately and it's not much. And mostly at night when he's moving I rarely got up in the middle of the night when I was pregnant with my daughter. Isay this boy is trouble already lol
  • This baby must have a huge head.  When she starts moving around a lot, it is seriously violent to my bladder, my crotch, and the nerves going into my thighs.  I have somehow managed to not piss myself *yet*.

  • my baby was breached until a couple weeks ago and is now head down and I go to the bathroom three times as muh now!

This definitely has happened to me. Although breathing is getting hard again since he's growing so much, so I'm pretty much feeling the pressure everywhere now. It's a good night of sleep when I only get up 4 times to pee.

  • My LO was breech until this week, I've gone from getting up 1-2 times a night to 4-5, it's terrible! I use the restroom before I leave the house and 9 times out of 10 I have to go again when i get to my destination. I couldn't even make it around the grocery store yesterday without having to leave my cart full of groceries outside the restroom. I have found too that when I get a sudden I HAVE TO PEE, NOW feeling that only drips come out. SO annoying!
