we were going to tell family on easter, but i had a thought today that maybe we should tell them tomorrow (4/1) and leave them wondering if it's a prank. would that be terribly cruel? it's making me giggle like a moron.

actually, they probably wouldn't. my parents are pretty oblivious to what day it is since my mom retired.

also, i wouldn't be thinking of doing it if there was the slightest possibility that they wouldn't think it was funny. i'm not a complete insensitive jerk.

I think it'd be rude to do if you weren't pregnant but depending on how they take pranks it could be pretty funny :P Cause ut really isn't a prank at all.

I'm doing the same thing. Was going to tell my parents later, but I am going there for dinner tomorrow so I think I'm going to do it then. I agree it's not a prank because it's true! But those few seconds of wondering if it is a prank will be great, I hope at least!

I think we are going to announce it to my and DH family on Easter. I am still paranoid of a chemical pregnancy, so by then I should be out of the woods for that, at least I hope so. Plus we really won't be seeing our families until then. I think we are going to make a little Easter basket filled with baby stuff for each side and see how long it takes someone to notice it and figure it out.

We're going to tell my brother and sister and DH's brother tomorrow. Mainly because we all have the sense of humor that will appreciate the "unjokiness" of the announcement but making them *think* it's an April Fool's Joke.

I seriously considered telling my mom yesterday (April fools day) because it's her favorite holiday. She pranks everyone every year and she would have loved it! However, it's way to early for us to start telling family.

We plan to tell DH family the weekend of the 26. It is my MIL's birthday that day and we'll wrap a onesie that says "I love my Abuela" I'm really excited to tell them!

My family already knows. It really helped having them know when I went through the m/c, so they knew right after I told DH.

Should this cycle work... the plan is to tell my family on Mothers Day right around 8wks. We always have a family dinner together and do a gift exchange. DH is going to give my mom a gift, (not sure what yet) but it will say something along the lines of congrats on being new mommy to be. we will let her open it, then he will take it from her as if accidentally mixed up the gift that should be for me. Since no one in my family knows we are going through treatments, it'll shock the hell out of them. Fx it works!

I did it yesterday and it was perfect. My mom completely didn't believe me, just kept no saying no way I know what day it is. But they were so excited once they figured out it wasn't a joke!

We plan to tell our family on Mother's Day [5/11] I know you're supposed to wait til 12 weeks but by that time I'll be 11 weeks & a few days, - that's close enough for me & it's a holiday! I think I'll take sonogram pictures & put them in cute frames for my mom, MIL, & grandma.

I saw a cute idea for an Easter announcement. Fill a basket with Easter candy and say "There aren't any eggs in this basket but the most important one is cooking and you'll get to meet him/her in December!"

I'm worried about announcing mine because my SIL is having the first-ever grandchild on my husband's side in just a few weeks. How long should I wait to say something? I don't want to steal her thunder (her own brother just had his first yesterday so she's already crowded for attention). I want to take advantage of Easter but I'm worried it'll be way too close to her baby's arrival.

Announced to my family last night. Told mom & dad we had an early christmas present for them. they looked at the test stick for a while before they realized it.

My brother (who is 17) said "what I am supposed to say?"

My sister has decided to quit smoking.

Its ideal to wait till twelve weeks to be in the "safe zone" but its up the the parents really. If u can emotionally handle explanation and condolences if the pregnancy is lost then tell your family when you want. We have lost two pregnancies one being twins and our families knew but we ha not publicly shared our news. With our son we told everyone at 9 weeks after testing and ultrasound confirmed everything was great. To each their own. And i love the mothers day idea! Thats super cute.

As a mother of 3 children and 10 angel babies, I find announcing pregnancies on April Fool's Day to be tacky and just wrong.

We will wait until the absolute last moment because we have made the mistake of announcing and then miscarrying.

We will tell both families on Easter. I made Easter baskets for both sets of parents. There's a golden egg in each and I'm going to put some sort of poem or maybe a picture of DD with a baby 2.0 sign or something inside - still deciding this part.

As for when to tell, this is totally up to you. We told our best friends and parents about our last pregnancy around 5 weeks. I ended up miscarrying around 6 weeks. I'm glad they knew though because I was a mess and I needed their support. I wouldn't have it any other way. God forbid if something were to happen again, I'd need those same people for comfort. For me personally, keeping it in and having to hide the pain is way worse. But again, it's your comfort level.

ETA: Telling on Mother's Day is a great idea. That's when we found out we were expecting DD. We told both sets of parents (first grandchild on both sides) the same day. It was such a fun surprise and the perfect holiday to share the good news. Good luck holding it in until then!!

We will be telling our families on Easter.... We video taped our reaction to the test results, so we are going say we have a funny video to show them on YouTube and then show them our video.... Might even video tape their reaction too. It's our first and we are so excited. Sharing with family is important to me, as many of you mentioned, who will you lean on if something happened....
