newborn won't nap unless being held !

my baby girl is 6 weeks old now...luckily sleeps a 3-4 hr stretch at night in RNP but during day will only nap if being held or worn. we've once gotten an hour long nap cozied in crib once but thats it! she's slowly getting better at being in swing or seat for 15-20 mins but jeesh...anyone else facing this ?! i know shes still young and needs the mommy connection..and i do love the cuddles, but a girls gotta get some things done around the house .

  • Same here! Mine is 7 wks old and is glued to my nipples.. Nurses to sledp then wont let me put het down. Im anti CIO this young so she sleeps connected to me... I on the other hand dont get much done or sleep well.. I can do a few things while she chills in a bouncer or swing.

so funny, I just posted my own thread on this same issue with my 4 week old hours ago!  I guess if you need to get things done around the house, wear her since she lets you!  I'm still trying to get my little guy to get used to being worn.  he hates the moby but will tolerate the Boba carrier... he's only fallen asleep 2x in it but for 10-15mins and that's it.  I'm hoping to work his time in it up (whether awake or asleep).  he won't sleep in a swing or bouncer for me either.  currently, I'm trying to swaddle him and have him sleep in a boppy.... fingers crossed that it works!

    good luck to you!
  • well I am happy to see that it's not just us!! we are having some nursing issues also and although her weight gain is great I'm always second guessing and wondering if she doesn't nap well bc she's still hungry ?! but she does nap great in the wrap!! I'm using a solly wrap -- similar to moby but less bulky.. but there are some things that are not easy when wearing a newborn!
still enjoying this time while I have it ;)
  • My little guy was the same way at that age. I used the Moby all the time! She's just still really little. It doesn't last forever, so just try to enjoy it while you can.

  • Hang in there it gets better! Babies are still learning to adjust being out of the womb and they are comforted by being close to mom! Try using a csing to hold them close. I used a baby K'tan and it worked great. they will grow out of the need to be on you every second of the day. Embrace it while you can. I thought my little guy would NEVER sleep and that I was going to be a zombie forever! I now look back and realize that it wasn't that bad but in the moment you feel helpless! Take turns being up with the baby and get some sleep, YOU NEED IT!!! (as if you didn't know that!)

Things that helped me and my little one: (baby k'tan sling- we even took walks in this!) swaddling, try a pacifier! Especially if you are breast feeding! I was SOOO against the pacifier but my girls were killing me! My little guy wouldn't take the pacifier from me but he would my husband- he does now and only when he sleeps! They are so young that the suckling soothes them but does a number on your nipples :( so have some lanolin cream on hand and apply, apply, apply!

my beautiful baby boy is now almost 4 months and sleeping great but that wasn't always the case. It does get better, take it day by day and remember your little one is only this little once. Take deep breaths and try not to stress as the baby can sense that. Try to be calm and ask for help. If they sleep in the swing LET THEM SLEEP THERE. If they sleep in the car, go for a drive!
