Success after IF

Low morphology success stories?

Hi all, I have been trying to search the boards for a long time. I am wondering if anyone here could help me. I have just finished my 5th day of clomid (taken fir the first time). I didn't noticed any side effects so I guess I am lucky. Our doctor says I am a healthy 32 yr old with no fertility issues. My husband (37) has low morphology however (.05%). Everything else from the SA is good though. He has a 13 and 14 yr old from his previous marriage.

So the doc put me on clomid and hubby on different supplements/vitamins. We have been TTC  for 2 years and I am really hopeful this is our year. Has anyone had any success with clomid and low morphology? Any helpful insights to pass my way? Thank you in advance!

Re: Low morphology success stories?

  • Hi there. I'm sorry, but I probably don't have the answer that you want to hear. One of my OBGYNs was willing to let us try Clomid for a few cycles, but only prior to getting the results from DH's SA. He has low morph, all other numbers are within normal range. As a side note, I also have DOR but that was undiagnosed until our most recent IVF cycle. Once we got the results back from the SA, my OBGYN nixed the possibility of moving forward with Clomid and referred us to our RE.

Our RE recommended going straight to IVF, based heavily on DH's SA results. I have heard of couples with MFI conceiving successfully via IUI, but we were fortunate enough to have coverage for most of the costs related to IVF. We chose to move forward with IVF and conceived our son in 2011. We went back to the same RE in 2012 and conceived our twins via IVF as well.

    Good luck to you.

  • My DH was diagnosed as having low morph, and we actually conceived on our own. The first time was on a break cycle after IVF #2 failed, and the second time was with a timed intercourse cycle where I was on clomid, follistim, and progesterone. I also had three chemical pregnancies which we conceived on our own. Prior to all of our natural conceptions however, we suffered through three three failed IUIs and two IVFs that failed. Looking back, our RE believes that our TTC journey took so long because I have poor egg quality and not due to DHs low morph. According to my RE poor egg quality isn't diagnosed until an IVF cycle is done because they can see how you respond. Good luck.

After 4 years, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs our surprise miracle is here!

  • In terms of my DH he was diagnosed primarily as low morphology (4%) and my RE recommended IVF with ICSI. My RE after getting all results said we could try IUI, but I am glad we moved straight to IVF because we learned that I am part of the issue even though the other testing didn't show it. Secondly, my DH numbers and count got significantly lower with each cycle and supplements were not helping him. We ended up on IVF 3 with PICSI instead of ICSI and me starting Metformin to have our BFP cycle. Good luck!

  • Hi! Like PP, you may not be excited for my response, but I will share since we have a similar dx.

DH has 0% morph. I was on monitored Clomid by request since I have wonky cycles (but no IF dx for me, we are strictly MFI) for 3 months with no success. We went straight to IVF with ICSI afterwards and had success with cycle #2 - our daughter is 11 months old. I am now in the 2WW after our first FET attempt for baby #2 (we had 7 frosties after our second IVF cycle). Best of luck! It is possible!
dx: MFI 0% morph & low count. Occasional Anovulatory cycles.

I am really hoping this works for us. Our insurance doesn't cover infertility treatments and IVF is too expensive for us with already having two teens in the house. Thank you all for your input.
  • I'll throw some hope your way.  My husband has 0% morph and I've conceived without medical help three times (one of which I miscarried), once while using clomid (which I miscarried), once from IUI using a combination of oral and low dose injectable fertility drugs and once from IVF.

Definitely have your husband keep up the vitamins as any bit of improvement will help.  If clomid and timed intercourse doesn't work you may want to look into how much an IUI using just clomid would be.  Sticking with oral meds would help keep your costs down.

    Good luck!

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Thank you so much!! :)
  • My DH had 2-3% morph.  We got pg with #1 after a clomid/IUI cycle (third round of clomid, second with IUI).  We conceived #2 when DS was 6 months old, and I hadn't even gotten a post partum AF yet.  Then I had a m/c (conceived without intervention) and finally conceived #3 after almost 11 months TTC without help.  I am all for trying clomid/IUI with only a diagnosis of low morph.  Good luck!

  • Well AF started yesterday and i am going back to the RE Monday or Tuesday for my ultrasound. so weird that my cycle started early and was only 26 days long. I appreciate the comments and plan to ask my doctor about IUI when I go. I have tried to do so much research on low morphology but there really isn't too much on the internet. Our RE really made it sound like not a big deal at all. Well this month I am using OPKs and hoping to make it happen! Also will be 3 months that DH has been taking his supplements and I know it takes 70 something days for the sperm to be affected by that.
