Is using a bottle warmer okay?

Is it okay to put a bag of frozen medela and target brand) in my bottle warmer? It uses steam.

I know defrosting in the fridge is probably best but just curious in case my husband is ever in a pinch.

Thanks!

Re: Is using a bottle warmer okay?

  • I don't think I'd put just the bag into a bottle warmer.  Even if it could withstand the heat of the steam, I've had bags leak on me.  You don't want to waste that precious BM from a leak into the bottle warmer.

Instead just have him microwave a bowl of water.  Put your BM bag into a ziploc bag.  Float the ziploc in the bowl of water for a couple minutes.  Easy Peasy.

  • I thaw them in the crockpot. Because we exclusively bottle feed we just keep the crock pot on low all the time but you can also float them in a cup of hot water. Just make sure they are closed!

  • You can steam frozen BM in the Dr Browns bottle warmer that we have. We haven't had to thaw them that way yet but in a pinch I'd put the BM bag in another ziplock bag and then warm them.
