1st Trimester

I don't even know where to begin....

I just found out yesterday that we are expecting our first child together. This was very unexpected, but we are super excited. Since we weren't actually planning on this- I feel very unprepared. This will be my first baby. After scanning the posts on this board, it seems as if so many of you know what you are doing and talking about. I have no clue! I see all these abbreviations and have no idea what you are all taking about. Is there a cheat sheet somewhere?

I have this whole list of things running through my head. My number one is that I need to find a new OBGYN. I just found out about a week ago that I can't go to mine anymore due to insurance. I have been going to her for over 15 years. Not happy.?

I could go on and on with all my questions and concerns...but I will just leave it at that. ?

  • Well first, Congratulations!

Ask friends or family about their OBGYN to help you find a new one. Stay calm and everything will work out!

  • First: Take a deep breath and let it out slowly! lol You will be okay!

Second: a list of abbreviations can be found here:

     https://talk.thenestbaby.com/boards/glossary.html

Third: Get a list of providers from your insurance company and get a new Dr. It will be okay, who knows maybe you will like this one more than your last?!

This is such an exciting time, you will have plenty of other things to worry about! Go buy a book or 4 and do some reading. Plus the ladies on here are wonderful, as long as you play by the rules. Wink

    Congrats and welcome!

  • Congraulations!

I think that everyone feel overwhelmed at first even if it is a planned pregnancy. Believe me we were trying but still completely shocked when it happened on the first try:) My husband likes to tell everyone that I tricked him because I told him it would probably take a few month. So just take it one step at a time you will figure things out in time and hey you still have 8 months to prepare for baby:)

Read through posts here and you'll see that we all have the same concerns and silly question.

  • Sunshine,

None of us really know what the he!! we are doing :).  We just read and research and ask a lot of questions.

I would definitely call your friends and get a referral for a good OB. you don't have to tell them you are pregnant, just let them knwo you are shopping.  Call someone you trust and call the doc as soon as possible, b/c you'll want to make an appt. :)

Congrats!! :) I am sure that you will get used to the idea.

In the mean time, go to your local bookstore and pick up a few books:  What to Expect When You are Expecting and Expectant Father :).

    Good luck and welcome!

  • congrats and welcome to first tri ;)

and don't worry about it- you will feel much better within a few weeks.. it will all come together for you!

  • congrats! i'm sure you'll do fine on the board :)
  • Congratulations!  And take a deep breath.  Like previous people have said, there's a wealth of knowledge on this site, from the women on these boards, and from the many books out there.  Good luck!
  • Welcome. Relax, your body knows what it is doing. Start taking prenatal vitamins, if you are not already.

Get a list of providers from your insurance company. Figure out what hospital you would want to deliver at based on location and reputation. Personally, I wouldn't go to one without a NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), even if I were not having twins.

After you determine what doctors deliver at the hospital(s) of your choice call your old OB, if you liked her, and ask for a reference.

  • Be sure to research any questions you may be having with your OBGYN. I love these ladies here, but some have no clue. It would be awful for you to follow incorrect information. Just start with the experts, and then work your way down.
  • Congrats and welcome!  Use your cheatsheet and you'll get the abbreviations down quickly.  We are just all learning what we're talking about...this board helps a lot but check all the really important questions with your doctor.
  • Congratulations! :) I have no idea what I'm doing - but everyone here seems very lovely and supportive. I'm enjoying the shared knowledge/rants immensely! :)

  • Congrats!

We are the same as you guys- a surprise pregnancy, totally unprepared and had no idea about anything.

I mean- most people who are TTC (trying to conceive), know a thing or two before they actually find out they're pregnant!   Not the case when the baby is like- hello, here I am! haha!
I spend the fist few weeks in panic!
But don't worry- it gets better!

This is a cool place.  You'll learn all the lingo very soon and find out what to take seriously and what to laugh at.

Have a great day and just start reading some good books to become familiar with what you are about to experience.  I recommend "Belly Laughs".  It's super fast read- funny and honest!

  • That abbreviations link is so HELPFUL LOL! Am a Newbie and trying to translate was getting tough!
