18 month sleep regression

Who's going through it?  Who already went through it?  I need help here.  DD used to sleep from 7 to 7 and take a 2 hour nap.  Last night she fall asleep for an hour and was up until midnight screaming unless we were in here room with her.  Today she took a whopping half hour nap.  I kept her in there the full 2 hours but she cried and never fell back asleep.  I'm dreading tonight.

We have tried rocking with her in her rocking chair, standing next to the crib rubbing her back, just standing next to the crib, doing the check in at 5, 10, 15 minutes intervals etc. Nothing worked.  We finally just had to let her cry and I could swear there was a devil inside of her the way she was screaming and throwing herself against the crib.

For the record, she already has all of her eye teeth and molars so this isn't teething related.

Re: 18 month sleep regression

  • Nola is going through it right now, even though she's 19.5 months. Thankfully, it's only affected her naps. She has only slept during nap time 2 out of the last 6 days. I kept her in her crib because she played quietly, but it was still frustrating. I'm really hoping we're past it because she actually slept today. It's a day to day thing. If she sleeps again tomorrow then I think we actually are out of it. Good luck!

  • L's bedtime is later because she was lying in bed for more than an hour before she would go to sleep. Other than that, as long as she is busy during the day she is still sleeping at night.

How long did she do that before you decided to go with a later bedtime?

DS has been staying awake for an additional 30 minutes, but DD is close to a hour. They fuss for a minute at times, but they more so just hang out up there. It's been four nights straight.
After a week solid, we pushed it about 10 minutes. No change after another week. Then we pushed it about 40 minutes. She used to be in bed by 7pm every night, now it is closer to 7:45. She usually falls asleep within 10 minutes now.

  • Maybe I hit the tail end of it.  DD slept great last night (after falling asleep on the way home from the mall at bedtime) and went down without a fight tonight.  She was still awake babbling in her crib but not screaming and flailing like she was a couple nights ago.  I pray that some of you don't go through this regression, it made me seriously doubt my mommy intuition for a week straight.
