Breastfeeding

spraying milk

Hi everyone! You've all been so helpful helping me learn to breastfeed so I have another question...

Some background: I had minor oversupply a few weeks ago and I thought it was since corrected.

But... yesterday my LO was fussing and when he unlatched I noticed that I was spraying a lot! It happened again multiple times that night and again twice today.

I don't feel engorged (except when I woke up this morning), I'm not pumping more than usual, and his diapers are normal.

If it helps... I now nurse of both sides (he insists) and he is 7 weeks old. Also, when I did a weighted feed last week he was getting 4 oz.

What could be causing this?

Tia for any advice!

  • I agree with forceful let down. My LO is 6 months and sometimes he can handle it, other times he gets choked up and pops off. I just let it spray into a burp cloth till it slows and relatch
  • I have this still and my LO is a year old. I don't think I have an oversupply (but I've never really thought about it). It doesn't seem to bother her, I really only see it when she unlatches early (she likes to play now and gets easily distracted). As long as he's not choking, personally I wouldn't worry about it.

  • It's not really a problem by itself. I had this with DS at least until he was 10 months old.
