Convertible car seats

Hi all, someone is getting me a convertible car seat. I know most people use infant car seats and can use the carrier to move baby from car to house and vice versa. What do you do when having a convertible (Britax) car seat that doesn't remove from the car to transport baby between house and car?

    Just carry them.

    Also you can baby wear or put them in a stroller for longer outings, like to the grocery store.  

    Just and FYI, Britax convertible seats need the newborn wedge to fit infants and even with that it is not a guarantee that you're newborn might fit. 

    If you want to purchase a very basic infant seat that fits newborns just in case I'd suggest the Cosco Comfy Carry Elite. You can buy it for around $60.

    @emilyh107, she asked literally just about house to car...not being out and about.  I babywear and love it when I'm out and about, but the car to the house?  I don't throw on my carrier just to walk the ten feet it takes me to get from one to the other.  Guess maybe it depends on how far you park from your house...

    I guess I was thinking out and about as well. I live alone and was just wondering for like carrying groceries to and from car once baby is here, walking the dog, etc...

    In that case either baby carrier or stroller with infant attachment? Do they make those?

    I was often running errands while DH was at work while I was on maternity leave...carry the kiddo in from the car, make sure he/she is somewhere safe (PnP, crib, bouncy seat, whatever) and then bring in the rest of your stuff.  That's what I always did and it worked fine.  Out and about, baby wearing is a great plan, as it leaves your hands free.

    I wrap DS in a blanket and then unroll it really fast so he rolls toward wherever I want to go. 

    Butseriously, babywearing if you dig that or putting LO in a stroller are both good options. Britax makes strollers and I believe they make attachments for the convertible seats to attach to different brands as well. 





    I'm not new. I just hate The Bump.

    To the house: your arms. 

    While doing stuff: wear the baby. 

    Think about it. Even if you had an infant car seat, you'd have to take it in the house and set it down, right? And then make trips to get the groceries in? You can still do this. Just set the baby down in something safe.

    The infant carseats are nice, because you don't have to wake them when you get them in and out of the car. But they get heavy quickly.  Lots of people stop using them by 6 or 8 months.  They definitely aren't a necessity.  

    My daughter did fine in her infant carseat in the car, but hated it the rest of the time, so we never used it in the stroller.  We wore her for the first 2 months, then just let her lay down in the stroller when we were out for walks (she preferred that to being worn).  

    To get from the car and back you just have to take her out of the carseat.  As far as grocery shopping, you'll need to have a stroller or wear her, because with the infant seat you can just put it in the cart, but you can't do that without the infant seat.
