3rd Trimester

Possibly TMI

I think I mentioned before that last week I was 1cm and have been getting contractions but not constant enough to say I am in active labor. Tomorrow is my midwife appt, so I'll mention this to her. I just wanted to know if this is "normal" - I've had diarrhea for the past 2 days, and I keep feeling like vomiting anything I eat. I've only been eating crackers, soup, tea and things of the sort. I've had ginger ale as well. I have been drinking a lot of water as well. Is this just maybe a stomach flu, or could this be labor related?

I read something before online about how when your body starts having diarrhea and feel like vomiting is your body's way of like getting rid of everything so that your uterus can contract easier or something along those lines. Does anyone know anything about that or had any experience? Or should I just calm the fuck down, and say it's a stomach flu?

Re: Possibly TMI

  • Edit: I haven't actually vomited. Just feel very nauseous.

  • I don't have a definitive answer for you, but I have also heard that those symptoms can occur towards the end of the pregnancy. I would assume that if you had a stomach virus, you wouldn't be able to keep down any crackers or ginger ale.
Also, baby is pushing up on your stomach, which is probably creating the nausea. I've noticed that when I eat bigger meals, I feel nauseous, too. I'm guessing the baby is all up in my stomach. No fun.
    Good luck!

  • It sounds more like nerves/anxious to me.  With my previous 3 labors, when I was in active labor was in I cleaned myself out and when I was in transition was when I vomited (I ate while in labor)- all which are very common during that time.
  • Labor could be coming or it could be a stomach virus. No one here can tell you.

  • Okay melainiandmark this is getting annoying. Just because I asked a question about DD does not mean I am going to DD my posts. I don't do that.

Anyhow, I don't know. It's weird. I don't feel anxious. I feel calm, and relaxed. I feel ready, and just waiting.

  • Well, I hope it is a stomach virus and not labor yet.

  • Just sounds like the last month of pregnancy to me.

I've heard the same as you - that these can be signs of labor.
However, the only way to tell is to discuss it with your midwife and get checked for dilation.

    Dilation means nothing pre-labor.
  • I've been nauseous in the morning for over a week, baby hasn't even dropped yet.
Might not even be a stomach flu, just your body being weird.

  • I had my appointment today, and my midwife said that those are signs of early labor. She said though that I can be in early labor until my due date or even after. They will wait 42 weeks :)

  • I had it all week at week 35, again at week 37, dilated 1 cm and have now successfully made it to week 39 with no more progress. Don't get your hopes up, it means nothing

I was in labor for three weeks before being induced so relax the only true way to know your in labor is you water breaks.

  • Yup, I am all relaxed now thanks, lol. I had a nice chat with one of my midwives and I am all calm and relaxed. She said before being induced she will wait until 42 weeks. Eh, she said it's not true that the only way to know I am in labor is with my water breaking. She gave me other ways for me to know that I am in labor. Either way, thanks for your response.
