Only really on he weekends when he wakes up early. We let him lay in bed and watch pbs (Sesame Street usually) while dh and I get a little more zzzzzz. Other than that we usually have he news on.

I'm glad you asked this! I have no problem with DD getting a little bit of screen time. She will somewhat watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (loves the Hot Dog song!) and Doc McStuffins and basically anything with singing. However, recently DH threw a huge fit about her getting screen time and refuses to have the tv on when she's around. I'm all for mainly reading and other activities but I don't think a little bit of tv before 2 will hurt her.
He works 24 hour shifts and honestly I need the background noise sometimes. I try not to go overboard but mama also needs a chance to cook and clean when he's not around!
DS watches tv only in the morning for a little bit. He loves Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He is mesmerized by tv and would watch it all day if I let him.
DD is definitely showing more interest in the tv. I have it on for background sound. She dances and watches Mickey mouse clubhouse, Doc Mcstuffins and Sophia the first.

Anything on Disney Jr she will watch. But Doc McStuffins, Mickey and Sofia the First are her favs. She will dance to the songs and laugh along if she thinks something is funny. We were in the Disney store the other day getting a gift and DD recognized Mickey and Doc. We try to limit her tv time, only an hour or so 2 at the most. But I need to get things done around the house so its easy to put her down.

Our tv is on for background noise, if a show isn't on we change it to an audio station and listen to music. DS will only pay attention for a few minutes...unless it is Bubble Guppies or Bob the Builder. He LOVED PAW Patrol and Wallykazam for a bit but we got rid of our Directv and we just have Netflix.
He looses interest pretty quick and in our new house pretty much always goes back to the window to look out into the yard, or at the door wanting to go outside. LOL, he's kind of like a puppy right now, scratching at the door to go out! I'm so glad spring is finally here!

oh heck no. they should not be watching tv. don't do it.
sure, it's on at our house but not children's programs. I do not want her addicted to that thing yet because soon they will start throwing fits unless you turn on a kid's show and that is not a habit you want to start this young.
I'm guilty of letting DS son watch his Peppa Pig on YouTube on my phone in the morning while I sleep a little longer. Also on the iPad if he's being needy while I'm nursing. It's the only thing he'll watch. It's a British cartoon that isn't too annoying.
If she's sick or super grumpy, we'll watch Daniel Tiger or Cat in the Hat on my phone. If I have a work call before her nap, I let her watch PBS kids. And I have MSNBC on in the background all day.
She reads all day and sees kids at play school and is a happy kid. Watching an hour of Elmo a week is not going to hurt her.
And sometimes I just want to pee without someone watching, so I turn PBS on.
She is however, obsessed with The Golden Girls. If she hears the intro song she'll come running out and wave to each of the actresses as the credits roll!

Your daughter and I have similar taste in television. Quality, quality show. Way ahead of it's time. I am going to have to see if DS likes it now!
We don't have a TV and usually watch Hulu on the iPad or Mac. I have only let DS watch a handful of five minute Sesame Street videos on YouTube. I don't plan on letting him watch full programs until two years, but the decision is kind of easy since we don't have a real TV going in the background.

With DS I didn't start TV until closer to 2, but since he's now obsessed with Dinosaur Train, DD also gets TV time. She's still not into TV yet, so she and I will play while DS watches a couple of shows, or she will play by herself while I do some cleaning or make food etc... My son loved Blues Clues for a while, and now only wants to watch dinosaurs.
Edited to add - Is it a bad thing that I love watching Dinosaur train too, because I learn about so many more dinosaurs than I ever knew about? LOL
We often have TV on as background nose but it is not kid shows. Usually the news or something like The Big Bang Theory. She doesn't really pay attention at all unless it is a loud commercial. I have used Bubble Guppies in small doses to get her distracted enough to take medicine or to quick get dinner finished but she has never sat and watched a while show of anything. I don't want to encourage it too much just because it is habit. I am really pumped for when we can watch Disney movies together though :-)
We usually only watch TV together: the news in the morning while we cuddle and have milk/coffee and in the afternoon we watch either Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger, or SuperWhy (DS loves to hear them sound out letters). If I do have the TV on he rarely just stops and watches passively by himself. From what I understand of child development, the main drawback to screen time is the lack of interaction it can promote so when we do watch TV, we talk, point, repeat, etc. and when the show is over, we wave "bye-bye" and move on to another activity.

It's not only that, it's the habit you create when you allow tv to be part of their everyday routine. If you don't want kid shows on your tv 24/7, don't start now! lol
No TV for us yet either. I figure DS will get plenty of screen time as he gets older, so I'm in no rush to introduce it yet.
I do also slightly worry (read: paranoid for no real reason) about whether he will end up being ADHD and dyslexic. I know it's silly, but DH has both and the dyslexia seems to run in his family. Because of that, I want to limit the over-stimulation.
I'm not opposed to DD having some TV time. It's normally after 5 while I'm trying to get dinner together and need her to stay distracted and out from under my feet. But sometimes I'll let her during the day and will watch with her.
We keep her shows pretty much limited to Disney Jr. Her favorites are Sophia the First, Doc McStuffins, Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
She has been sick with a cold the last few days, so she's been getting some extra TV/movie & cuddle time. We watched Tangled together this morning and she actually sat through the whole movie!
DD doesn't watch TV shows, but we have some Disney Sing-Along and Baby Einstein DVDs that we put on if we need to keep her occupied for a little while while we get ready or something like that.
ETA- If I were home with her during the day I'm sure she'd watch more.
Re: Do you let your LO watch tv and if so, what shows?
She loves Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.
