Breastfeeding

oversupply.

So my LO has been gassy since 2 weeks old and it has gotten sooo much better since, I dont know if its because Ive been off dairy, or that he's getting older. And I thought I had my OS under control (if I ever had it, stools were always normal), until today. It is kind of a blessing because I can pump all my LOs needs and a little more  in 3 pump sessions at work. His stools are sporatic but normal. But I pumped 7-8oz combined in a single session.Should I try blockfeeding again? or should I leave it alone and maybe itll adjust? Should I just pump one breast and alternate like he eats?

Is there a difference between OS and just reacting favorably to a pump?

Re: oversupply.

  • I had OS but never crazy green foamy diapers. I knew it was OS bc LO would choke and get flooded with milk. My LO is nearly 5 months and I still only feed one side per feeding. When I went back to work I was nervous about not having enough so I pumped 3 times. After a few weeks I realized I could do 2. My body quickly adjusted. Are you large chested? I am and my LC said that means I have more storage space.

I would feed in the am and pump before work. I might pump first or nurse first, which ever. Then I would pump both sides at noon. The longest time in between was 6 hours. Maybe 6.5 once or twice. If between those 2 pumping a I had 15oz (what I sent to DC) then I skipped pumping at 4.

Then I would nurse LO at 5 pm on one side and 6:30 or 7 on the other. So each breast waited 5-7 hours for some action. In MOTN I would feed single sides.

I typically get 4-6 oz per breast when I pump in 12 minutes, but sometimes up to 8.

On the weekends I would feed one side in the am and pump the other and then nurse the rest of the day, one side per feeding.

So, that's what worked for me. Just thought id give you a break down because I was paranoid about giving up the third pumping and letting my boobs go more than 5 hours but for me it wasn't a problem.
