Toy guns

Do your kids have them? (a nerf gun) do you let them point at people?

T has a nerf gun and builds 'guns' out of Legos. I do not let him point at people. Should I not be making such a big deal?

Re: Toy guns

  • I've never purposely bought my son a toy gun but whenever he played with one I never made a huge deal about it. Absolutely no pointing it at anyone.
  • Loading the player...
  • Before I had kids I thought I would never buy my future children toy guns. Then I married an avid hunter and had 6 boys (and a girl who will probably be a tomboy!)... so that all went out the window.

Even before they had toy guns my boys would turn sticks,Lego's, or whatever else was handy into a gun. I've seen them eat a slice of bread into a gun shape. Even with plenty of toy guns, they still do these things...even the 16 year old.... lol

  • I know I can't shield everything but I want to avoid "violent" type toys from DS as long as I can. My husband says I can try all I want but little boys will find ways to make things into a sword or a gun. I'm sure he's right, but I can give it the ol' college try!

  • The other thread was mine. I still have not placed any restrictions at home on this type of play, but I won't buy realistic looking guns.

I'm still a bit concerned about school, but I expect my kids to follow school rules even if they're different than at home.  If his teachers bring it up as a problem, I'll deal with it then.

  • He has squirt guns and practically all of his Star Wars figures have them but we don't have any real-looking toy guns in the house.

I've avoided nerf bc my little one may get hurt. They are strong and v fast.
