2.5 year old discipline/behaving at school

What type of discipline works best for this age?? I feel like NOTHING is working with our DD. We don't spank (sometimes my DH will pop her hand), but I feel like time outs, taking stuff away, etc isn't really working all the time either. She used to listen well, but not doing so good most days lately.

Additionally, she is acting up at school -- nothing too crazy I don't think, but just running off or throwing things sometimes (not everyday but maybe a bad day every couple of weeks, which she used to be shy and good everyday when she started in the fall). Her teachers obviously talk to her about it and put her in the time out chair if necessary, and we will talk about it too after school, but is there anything I can do to help her out?? I know kids are kids, but geeez, I just want her to act right at school at least! ha

This is our first, so I feel like I need more help on discipline especially!

Re: 2.5 year old discipline/behaving at school

  • She's doing exactly what kids her age should do.  Yes, we teach them better behavior over time, but this is totally expected.

Everyone has a different approach, and only you can figure out what will work best for YOU to use with YOUR CHILD.  (And it may be different than what the school uses and what your SO uses, etc.)

Personally, I'm a fan of "gentle parenting" or whatever you want to call it.  No time-outs, but lots of respectful interaction.  I think ahaparenting.com is probably one of the better resources on it.

I imagine that it isn't the right fit for all parent/child combinations, but it works great for me and my daughter, and me and the boy I watch two days a week.
