NBR: Meal planning (Fresh 20)

If you are the grocery shopper or meal planner in your household, how do you go about it? I feel as though I always make the same things in rotation, and it gets to be a bit dull. I would like to incorporate more fresh ingredients in our meals. While I don't feel we are unhealthy in our eating habits, I wouldn't say we are really healthy either. It's usually a mix of pre-made/processed and fresh dishes every night. I have been toying with the idea of trying out Fresh 20 to see if we can add variety as well as upping the health factor. If you've tried it at some point, can you weigh in on any pros and cons? I've been wanting to make a change in this department for a while now, and have looked at paleo and clean eating as well. Honestly, while I have family members and friends who swear by both, I'm a little intimidated by those options! Being emailed a weekly grocery list and recipes for the week sounds more my speed. Lol. With DS2 coming soon, I am hoping to start whatever I do this summer (while I'm off work) so I can get the hang of it, and hopefully lose some pregnancy weight along the way!

My parents have been doing Fresh 20 for a year now and they love it.  Now that it's just the two of them, they only do 3 of the meals per week and it lasts them.  They love how easy it is to do, and the variety of trying new dishes.

  • I have never heard of Fresh 20. But we use an iPhone/IPad app called Paprika.

It allows you to easily import recipes from websites you like, then you chose the meals you want for the week and it pumps you out a grocery list! It's magical (granted once you've got the list, you gotta do a bit of inventory checking but meh, takes ten minutes here)!

Gawd I love it and I am so glad we incorporated a meal planning system into our life. I found out a couple of years ago that I had been struggling with some serious non-anaphylactic allergies. So having to cut out dairy, egg, wheat, some seafood and a few randoms (kidney beans and Lima beans) seemed daunting. How was I ever going to be able to have meals pulled together to feed myself?!? And on top of that, I love to graze. So I had to make sure I knew what we were eating and I had enough snacks that were allergy friendly. This has saved my but!! Seriously, I have to get off my soap box cause I could just go on for hours...

Take away: check out Paprika. See how easy it is. You can incorporate Paleo and Clean Eating recipes from the interwebs (we use tons of health sites). I think you may like it...! :)

Sounds interesting! I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!

  • My sister and I both tried the sample menu and weren't fans on a couple of the meals. I ended up not going any further with it.
