Gianna, born 26 weeks - I Am STRONG because...

Gianna was born at 26 weeks and is now 30 weeks. It has been a roller coaster filled with emotional times. My husband and I are remaining strong for her. She has good days and bad days of health. When I get home I have to deal with the insurance or if not my job. No one will ever understand unless they go through it themselves. Reading the discussions help me to be stronger and give me hope. Thank you. I AM STRONG because she makes me stronger every day as she grows. Why are you STRONG? Feel free to post. Reading one anothers will make us stronger and give us more hope, especially on our bad days when we are filled with worries.

  • I am strong because I survived the most intense and terrifying 5 hours of my life. In that span I found out I'd be having my baby at just 31 weeks, I lost over half my blood got rushed for an emergency c section had to witness my husband being left behind and terrified. I am strong because I was not awake when he was born. I am strong because after being told he wasn't born breathing it just made me want to be there for him even more. I am strong because I had to be separated from my baby so he could go to a higher level NICU. I am strong because I recovered in ICU in 18 hours so I could be transferred to be with him.
  • I am strong because I stayed on bed rest for 5 weeks and kept him growing. Im strong because I advocated for my son. I'm strong because I spent more time at the nicu then I did at home. I'm strong because my persistence brought my son home.

There is one quote in particular that I came across during our NICU journey 2 years ago that became my mantra.  It helped me get through the rough times and the times when I started to lose hope.  I would literally say out loud to myself in the mirror when my mind starting going down a not-so-good track.   The quote is:
"You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice."

  • I am strong because I went through the pain of childbirth and was rushed into emergency c section because she was feet first. I am strong because i went through 3 days of trying to stop contractions and took medications everyday to make my baby's lungs stronger. I am strong because I did not get to see my baby a whole day after having general anesthesia complications after my c-section. I am strong because I take care of myself for my baby. I am strong because I hope and pray for my baby to do better everyday even though it has been rough. I am strong because my husband and I support each other in these tough times.
