DFW ladies - everyone okay?

I know there are quite a few DFW ladies here, so I wanted to make sure everyone was ok after last night's craziness.  I don't know where everyone is located, but I know the northern counties (AKA, where I live  :( ) took a beating last night.

DH works in Denton and they got baseball and softball sized hail at his work.  Thankfully he had a dentist appointment and LO's 6 month well check so he left work early and missed all of that.

We did get marble and golf ball sized hail at our house.  LO got to spend a few minutes in the closet under the stairs.  Luckily nothing is damaged that we can see.

Anyways, I took this from our patio after it finally stopped.

Re: DFW ladies - everyone okay?

  • Yikes! So scary... We had softball sized hail a few years ago. It broke all the windows, lights, and mirrors of my car, and then the hail destroyed my dashboard, tore off my rear view mirror, etc.

I think every house in our neighborhood needed new roofs--and many needed new decking as well.

Hail is brutal...hope everyone is okay!

  • We are good. We hid in the bathroom with LO strapped in her carseat for a good while. They were reporting a tornado just a few miles west of us, but luckily it dissipated and only a wall cloud passed over us. We got golf ball size hail but no damage to the house and our cars were safe in the garage. It was a scary night! Usually storms are sorta exciting/cool to us , but with a little one I was freaked out. We are looking into getting a storm shelter now. Too many tornadoes up here for my comfort.

    We are also up north!

  •   We are also up north!
We're in NW Frisco, so we're probably pretty close to each other.  :)  I think I'll have someone come out to look at the roof anyway.  We had a decent hail storm a few years ago so I'm guessing the roof is probably toast at this point.

We are in Prosper! Are you talking about the hail storm like 3ish years ago? That thing wrecked our house!!! Totaled DH's truck, destroyed all of our landscaping, fence, roof, windows on the west side of our house... It was awful!!! We had around $20k in damage to the house alone. Thank God for insurance. Good thinking on getting the roof checked just in case. I'm going to mention that to DH.
  • Yes!  The great hailstorm of 2011...

I actually grew up in Prosper so I know many people that had the same type of damage you did.  I cant even imagine how scary that would've been.  My mom and step-dad moved further north after I graduated high school, so luckily they weren't in that storm.

  • Glad both of you ladies and babies are safe. We're in S. Arlington so we only had heavy rain...thankfully no hail this time.

We drove through a tornado a couple of years ago. Our oldest DD was in the car with us at the time. It was scary!! We didn't tell her until we got home that it was a tornado.

Oh my goodness, how scary! I think that will be tough for me as a parent not to let my panic show in scary situations. I need to work on my poker face.
  • I'm NW of Fort Worth. We had strong winds and the trampoline slid across the grass like it was on ice. Glad everyone is okay.

  • I work in Denton but luckily worked from home yesterday. It hardly rained at our house.
