NBOTBR: Do you believe?

...in aliens?

A local morning talk show was discussing this based on Bill Clinton's interview with Jimmy Kimmel where he said he wouldn't be surprised if aliens visited Earth...I guess many people are taking that as a "sign" that the Roswell thing/Area 51 is true.

While I don't know about all that, I do know that I think we are but a microblip of the Universe...and seeing as how the Universe is theoretically infinite, and there are (theoretically) bajillions of other planets out there, I find it pretty arrogant and ego-centric when people absolutely don't believe in the possibility of aliens...maybe not green-and-pink spotted people, and maybe they haven't landed here, but to me, it seems like a no-brainer that other life, in whatever form, must exist somewhere else. More and less intelligent than us. It just doesn't seem possible that we'd be the only ones!

What y'all think?

I believe in the possibility of other life forms out there somewhere. Whether they are intelligent or not, I don't know.

  • Totally agree.

I just think that it stands to reason that the possibility certainly exists that life (in some form) is likely. I'm not very religious so I don't really think of it from that perspective, but religion aside, it boggles my mind how many people won't even acknowledge the possibility!

  • I believe there is something else out there. It seems statistically impossible that there is not one other spot in the whole universe that has conditions to hold life.

Aliens on earth? I'm not convinced. Many of the "abduction" stories could be chalked up to sleep paralysis and waking dreams, which I've had. I had one where I was being drug down my bed sheets into some kind of hellish portal. I still clearly remember the sound of the fire and the feeling of my body being pulled down the sheets. Do I believe I was actually being drug down to the depths of hell? No.  Do I believe I have a terrifying sleep disorder involving hallucinations and being unable to move? Yes.
As far as the rest of the universe, I agree with others here that it's a mathematical impossibility that out of the billions of galaxies, some much older than ours, that our tiny little earth is the only little planet capable of holdin life.  It is such a trip to me that when we look up into the stars we are actually seeing light that is billions of years old. Essentially we are looking into the past. In theory If you happened to be in the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, and had a marvelously powerful telescope, you could actually see the dinosaurs roaming around on the earth because it takes the light 60 million years to travel back an forth.  Sorry, geek out.
Holy shit you just blew my mind.

    Like, holy shit.
